On Sunday, September 24th at 3pm at the Wellington Rotary Peace Park (Royal Fern Drive, Wellington, FL), the Wellington Rotary Club, the Wellington Village Council and supporters of peace came together to celebrate.  Mayor Anne Gerwig gave opening remarks about peace in our community.  The Palm Beach Central High School “Traditions” Choir sang “We are the World” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” led by director Scott Houchins.  Larry Kemp of the Wellington Rotary Club served as the Master of Ceremonies.  There were several awards given to local students for their peace posters, peace poems and peace essays.  Palm Beach Central Student Jayme DeRamus took home the Student Mediator Award (the SMART award).  Rotary’s Randy Pfeiffer presented Kathy Foster, founder of Wellington Cares and first Mayor of Wellington, with the Community Peace Award.  In keeping up with the tradition, Dr. Wes Boughner released several doves into the air at the end of the ceremony.
