Former Senator Olympia Snowe addressed a group of women, and some men, at the Tuesday, April 9, PNC Women in Power luncheon, which was held in the center court of the Palm Beach Gardens Mall, at 3101 PGABoulevard, Palm Beach Gardens. Proceeds from the event benefited  the YWCA of Palm Beach County. Before her election to the Senate in 1994, Snowe represented Maine’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for sixteen years. Senator Snowe is only the fourth woman in history to be elected to both houses of Congress and the first woman in American history to serve in both houses of a state legislature and both houses of Congress. When first elected to Congress in 1978, at the age of 31, Snowe was the youngest Republican woman, and the first Greek-American woman, ever elected to Congress. PNC’s “Women in Power” speaker series was created in 2007 to raise awareness of and support for programs that encourage and promote the development of girls and women. In support of this mission, nationally acclaimed female speakers were brought to the area to present their personal and professional journey to success.
