Hundreds of people turned out on Saturday, January 8, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Boynton Beach to mourn the loss of 13-year- old Stanley Davis III, a young dirt bike rider who lived in the community. Speakers included family members, friends, pastors from the community, and many other people who spoke fondly of the young man known to many as SJ. Davis died after being in an incident involving a Boynton Beach police officer on December 26, the day after Christmas. The incident is under investigation.

The main speaker at the event was attorney Ben Crump, a well known advocate for many who die under difficult and troubling circumstances. Crump has advocated for the families of Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake, Ahmaud Arbery and Corey Jones. Crump is also the author of Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People. Crump spoke about the need for justice and how his legal team would be heavily involved in the investigation of what happened to the young man.
