September, 2011 – May Peace Prevail on Earth


Annual Peace Ceremony in Wellington

The and the Village of Wellington presented a beautiful Peace Ceremony on September, 21st, 2011 at the Wellington Rotary Peace Park. Eight Wellington residents read the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in their respective eight native languages, representing the eight sides of the peace pole that is a part of the Peace Park. The Traditions music group of PB Central High School performed “We are the World” and other songs under the direction of Scott Houchins.  Local students were awarded for their prize-winning posters, poems, essays and photos, all on the subject of peace. The Wellington Rotary Community Peace Award went to Carla Neumann of “,” who developed a program in Kenya for providing for orphans. Wellington High School student Jake Romano was awarded the Student Mediator Award for Resolution Tactics (SMART award). Rotary Boy and Girl Scout Peace Merit Badges were awarded. The ceremony concluded with the release of doves into the air, thanks to Eternal Doves of Florida, followed by a few closing remarks by Dr. Wes Boughner, Chair of the Wellington Rotary Peace Initiative.
