Halloween-Lake Worth

Friday October 28 and Saturday October 29

Halloween in downtown Lake Worth will be a two day Party of Family, Fantasy, Fright and Fun.  The entire town will participate with candy, contests, concerts and costumes.  Events will take place on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29.  All events are free to the public. 

Friday evening, the third Friday Evening on the Avenue of the month, will be packed with costumed revelers going from restaurant to restaurant scoping out the best adult costume contests and the biggest prizes.  Windows throughout town will be decorated and judged on Friday.  Theatrics, Lake Worth’s unique costume shop, will be busy selling the regions most unusual visual puns.  Bands, restaurants and vendors will be priming the Halloween pump with eerie sounds, foods and wares that befit the season.  Gallery and shop displays exhibit the color the season deserves.  Candy treats are everywhere.  Ghosts of Lake Worth, on the prowl this Friday evening.  Bars of Lake Worth will be holding costume contests throughout the Halloween weekend. Friday Night is for parties and costume contests. Brogues is planning a major blow-out and the Party at South Shores Tavern features a Costume Contest at Midnight with three prizes (SST gifts). Grand Prize Best Costume $100.00 Second Place $50.00 and Third Place $25.00.  (A full list of parties and contests will be posted in a future release)

Emceeing Saturday’s events will be Dave Francis and Jeff Allen of the Dave and Jeff Show. The Dave and Jeff Show, a popular Sunday afternoon radio program is broadcast on PowerTalk 1420, WDJA-AM  from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. on Sunday afternoons.

Saturday hosts a full day of exciting activities from a Pumpkin Seed Spitting contest to Scary Movies in the Cultural Plaza at night.  Vendors and Trick or Treating will go on in all of the shops starting at 2PM.  Impromptu costumes parades of children, animals and adults are expected to spring up at any time of the day or evening.  (Flash-mob children’s parades)

Pumpkin Food Baking Contest: Top Lake Worth Chefs and Lake Worth celebrities will judge any and all creative food entries to this year’s Pumpkin Food Baking Contest.  Bring your best pies, cookies, cakes, or savory dishes.  Judges will award baskets of prizes in three categories.  Drop entries off at the Chamber of Commerce Building, 501 Lake Avenue on Saturday by 1:30 PM.  Judging takes place at 2:00 PM followed by prize award ceremony.

Pumpkin Seed Spitting Contest: What to do with all of the seeds from all of the pumpkins carved for this holiday?  Spit them as far as you can!  Seed spitting contest takes place at the Chamber of Commerce Building at 3:00 PM. Prizes for the best spitter.

Petting Zoo and Pet Costume Contest: Gather at Paws on the Avenue, “L” and Lake Avenues, for the annual Pet Costume Contest.  There will be a petting zoo.  The Kissing Pig will be back.  Pet costume contest will take place at 5:00 PM

Children’s Costume Contest: All children will be winners, but some will win “grand prizes” as this annual contest that takes place at 6:00 PM on “L” street near Paws on the Avenue. 

An old-fashioned Popcorn machine will be spewing popcorn outside of “Way Too Cute” consignment shop. Come and grab handfuls if you are in costume.  Vendors will line the street with special treats for this holiday.  Street performers will be everywhere.  The puppet show will run continuous performances.

Galleries and Shops are geared up for the holiday, most decorating their windows, each vying for grand prize.  They will be giving out treats all weekend to those in costume.  Special exhibits are planned, so drop into as many as you can to share the fun with these unusual artists and merchants.  Lake Worth has some who look like Halloween all year.  Search them out.

Restaurants and Bars will be serving up their own mix of Halloween madness with witchy brews and magic stews.  Stop in and ask for the Halloween specials.  Expect a night of enchantment with every bite.

Kiwanis hosts a full range of Children’s Activities in the Cultural Plaza.  This is truly a children’s holiday and the Kiwanis club in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce will turn the Cultural Plaza into an unforgettable Halloween experience children will want to come back to year after year. 

Bands and Music Everywhere: On every street corner and in every nook and cranny of the town music will abound.  No matter what your taste or genre, Lake Worth musicians will be playing for you.  Seek them out, wiggle and jiggle to the tunes.

Scary Movies Start at Dark. LULA (The Lake Worth Arts District) and the Lake Worth CRA take over the Cultural Plaza at dark for some of the scariest old black and white movies ever made.  Bring your lawn chairs with you and enjoy an evening of spine-tingling, goose bump raising fun.

Candy Corn Contest: A very large jar of candy corn will be located in town.  Buy a ticket and guess how many kernals are in the jar.  The winner will win ½ of the amount collected for this contest. 

The Ghosts of Lake Worth:  Lake Worth has some famous haunts and a ghostly history.  Look for the schedule of Lake Worth Ghost Tours during this eerie weekend.

Led by the DCA, all major entities within Lake Worth are working hard to make Lake Worth events and Holidays bigger and better than they have ever been.  All are Free and Family oriented.  The DCA is cooperating with the CRA, LULA, the LWChamber of Commerce and The City of Lake Worth.

The Downtown Cultural Alliance (DCA) is a non-profit association of Downtown merchants and residents working together to keep Downtown Lake Worth vibrant and welcoming.  The DCA is working the Lake Worth CRA and LULA, the City of Lake Worth and the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce to coordinate Evenings on the Avenue, the Second Saturday Sidewalk Sales, all Holiday Events and special events.
