West Palm Beach, FL, February 10, 2012 – The Palm Beach Zoo offers Family Zoo Adventures to help parents enrich their child’s pre-school learning. These age-specific programs will excite and intrigue participants through up-close animal encounters, games, and crafts. This is a way to turn a zoo visit into an unforgettable educational experience. Programs include Stroller Safari, Toddler Workshops, and Children’s Workshops.
Stroller Safari – Ages 2 and Under
This program is for infants and toddlers (age 2 and under). Each one-hour program is a different zoo adventure and will include a stroller tour, up-close animal encounter, song or story, and an activity page to take home. One adult is required to attend this program with registered child.
Cost per Participant: $15 for Members $25 for Non-Members
(Fee includes admission to the zoo and class for 1 child and 1 adult only.)
Red: Lemurs and Parrots – February 15, February 22
Orange: Tigers and Tamarins – February 29, March 7
Yellow: Wallabies and Friends – March 14, March 21
Green: Lizards and Alligators – March 28, April 11
Blue: Parrots and Peacocks – April 18, April 25
Brown: Deer and Otters – May 2, May 16
All programs begin at the fountain at 10:00 AM.
Toddler Workshops – Ages 2 – 4
These exciting workshops include age-specific crafts and activities designed to excite and intrigue your child. Workshops include up-close animal encounters, stories, snack, song or game, crafts, and admission to the zoo. One adult is required to attend the program with child.
Cost per Participant: $15 for Members $32 for Non-Members
(Fee includes admission to the zoo for non-members, and class for 1 child and 1 adult only.)
Animals in Motion: Swing like a monkey! Hop like a kangaroo! Get moving like the animals that live in the zoo! Come learn how the animals of the zoo get around, and get some practice for yourself too!
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am February 16 or February 25
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am February 18 or March 3
Critter Coats: Feathers, scales, and fur, oh my! Come feel your way through the animal kingdom, and learn the differences between the coats animals wear.
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am March 8 or March 17
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am March 10 or March 24
Calls of the Wild: Come roar and grrr with us while we explore the sounds of the wild. Learn how animals communicate in the natural world, and discover how you can sound like them too!
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am March 29 or April 7
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am March 31 or April 14
Zoo Babies: Discover the different ways animals raise their young. We’ll hop out of pouches, fly from nests, and hatch out of eggs, and then travel around the zoo to meet some of our very own zoo babies.
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am April 26 or May 5
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am April 28 or May 19
Backyard Buddies: Come discover the zoo that’s in your own backyard! From owls to opossums, turtles to snakes, we’ll take a look at the amazing animals that call our backyards home!
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am June 14
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am June 23
Color Safari: How many colors can a chameleon be? Learn why color is so important in the world of wildlife, and meet some colorful animals up close.
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am July 5
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am July 7
Wings and Things: Flap like a bat, flutter like a butterfly, and fly like an eagle. Come discover the world of animals with wings!
2 year olds: 10:00—11:00 am August 11
3 & 4 year olds: 10:00—11:30 am August 18
Children’s Workshops – Ages 5 – 7

Dinosaur Roar: Let’s travel back in time to the Age of the Dinosaurs! Discover dinosaurs that ran, swam, and flew, and meet some of their relatives that live right here at the zoo!

Junior Veterinarians: Come to the zoo for a behind-the-scenes look at the animal hospital, and learn what it takes to keep the zoo’s animals healthy and safe.

Toys and Treats: Play your way through the zoo just like our animals do! Come learn how the zoo keeps our animals entertained, and why playing is good for you. Make a toy for a zoo animal and one for yourself, too!

Who’s Who? Ever wonder why insects wear their skeleton on the outside? Or why snakes have scales? Come learn the differences between animal groups, and meet some up close, too!

Stripes and Spots: Can you spot the jaguar? Is that a flower or a parrot? Join us to discover how the patterns and colors of animals can help them camouflage themselves.

Up, Up, and Away: Discover the amazing world of birds! Come meet some of our own feathered friends, and learn what makes birds so special.
