An alternative Preschool Program Opens in Wellington 

A new choice to the “big box” preschools has opened for parents in Wellington .  Iris Tompkins, former director of The Learning Experience in Boynton Beach , has begun a new venture for parents seeking a smaller, more individualized program for their preschoolers.

The Learning Circle of Wellington focuses on kindergarten preparation, social skills, and fun.  “Having worked in a number of large preschools since moving to Florida from New York , I recognized the need for a smaller, more personal program for children aged two to five.  The teacher to child ratios in Florida are so large!  Having 22 two year olds in a class with 2 teachers is a struggle, and while there are many excellent, dedicated preschool teachers out there, it is difficult for them to give each child what they need to succeed.  I create a more individual, child centered approach, and The Learning Circle of Wellington was born.”

Iris Tompkins has many years experience working with preschool aged children.  Having owned and operated her own award-winning preschool in the suburbs of New York City before relocating to Florida , she understands the need for a developmentally appropriate, literacy based experience for the children in her care.  “Providing a safe place where children can learn and discover, while enjoying healthy snacks and meals, is a lifesaver for parents that have to leave their children while they work.  Involving children in lots of rich alphabet and reading experiences, pre-math and number skills, involvement in fun crafts and art projects, science and cooking… these are the activities that will fill up the children’s days.  An acceptance of each child as an individual member of our family of learners, and providing lots of hands-on learning and key social skills, will produce active, involved students when they begin their public school education.”
