September 2014 Special Events and Promotions Announced for Palm Beach Zoo
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society is announcing the following special events and promotions for the month of September 2014:
Safari Nights: “Are You Ready for Some Football?” theme: September 5, 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Ready? Set? Hike! Guests are invited to the Zoo on Friday evenings during September for the Safari Nights series. A theme of “Are You Ready for Some Football?” will score a touchdown with children on September 5. Guests who wear their favorite team’s jersey or t-shirt will be entered to win a Zoo prize pack valued at $150, to be drawn at the end of the Safari Night series in October. Chuck E Cheese will make a special appearance for fun photo ops, along with members of the Zoo Crew.
The night will feature children’s entertainment, including roving animal encounters, Keeper Talks and animal training sessions. Zoo members get in to Safari Nights for free! The following admission prices include access to the entire Zoo: $15.95 for a non-member adult, $9.95 for a non-member child (ages 3-12), free for toddlers under age three. Please note, as dusk approaches some animals may not be visible and some paths may be closed.

Food Truck Safari: September 6, 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. — Feed your inner animal at some of South Florida’s best food trucks inside the Zoo, when the “Food Truck Safari” returns on September 6. Enjoy live music from Steven Vincent and Juan Nealon, along with exciting Zoo Keeper talks and up-close animal encounters. The following food trucks will be spread throughout Zoo grounds: DR Smokehouse,
Monster Burgers, Don Mofongo, Parabas Grill, The Taco Factory and Ice Cream Express.
Admission, which does not include food and beverage purchases, is $9 for adult members, $10 for adult non-members, $6 for child members, $7 for child non-members and free for toddlers under age three. All food trucks are donating a portion of their proceeds toward Zoo operations. Trucks accept cash or credit. Gate proceeds support regular Zoo operations.
The Zoo encourages all food trucks to apply sustainable practices in their daily operations, and will once again give a “Sustainability Award” to the truck that excels in the most environmental and conservation sustainability categories in food production and presentation.

Half-off Admission During Construction: September 8 through September 12 – Like a snake shedding old skin, the Zoo is undergoing construction to improve visitor pathways. While approximately half of the Zoo grounds will be closed off during the construction process, guests can visit the Zoo for 50% off regular, full-priced admission pricing from September 8 through September 12. No coupons, discounts or other promotions will be accepted during the week. Half-off admission discount includes the Safari Nights event on Friday evening.

The night will feature children’s entertainment, including roving animal encounters, Keeper Talks and animal training sessions. Zoo members get in to Safari Nights for free! Roar & Pour: bOunce featuring Diane DeNoble and a Tap Takeover by Wynwood Brewery: September 13, 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. —
Enjoy live music from bOunce featuring Diane DeNoble, food, and drink service in the Zoo’s Interactive Play Fountain area at Roar & Pour on September 13. This night will also feature a Tap Takeover by the Wynwood Brewing Company. Guests can expect amazing up-close animal encounters and zookeeper talks.
The Zoo will have some café tables and chairs in the Fountain area during the event, and guests are invited to bring folding lawn chairs for comfort while listening to bands. Admission: Adult Non-Member (13 and older) $10, Adult Member (13 and older) $9, Child Non-Member (ages 3 through 12) $7, Child Member (ages 3 through 12) $6, Children under 3 are free. Admission prices start at 4:30 p.m. and live music begins at 5:30 p.m. Food and drinks are not included in the cost of admission.

Conservation Leadership Lecture: “Common Ground: Agriculture and Conservation in Florida’s Heartland,” featuring Mallory Lykes Dimmitt: September 18, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – The Zoo’s fourth Conservation Leadership Lecture of 2014, generously sponsored by Florida Crystals Corporation, is titled “Common Ground: Agriculture and Conservation in Florida’s Heartland,” featuring Mallory Lykes Dimmitt. Dimmitt coordinates the Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition project team and serves as the Executive Director.
The Conservation Leadership Lecture will occur on September 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Zoo’s Tropics Café. Guests are invited to enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and Zoo animal encounters from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. before the lecture presentation. Members of the media are invited to pre-interview Dimmitt by telephone ahead of the event.
Seating for the Conservation Leadership Lecture Series is limited. Tickets are $20.00 per person per event. Cocktails & passed hors d’oeuvres will be served. “Fiesta Cultural,” celebrating Hispanic heritage: September 20, all day, including Story Time at the Zoo, 10:30 a.m., and Roar & Pour, 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. – The Zoo presents its first-ever “Fiesta Cultural,” celebrating Hispanic heritage on September 20 all day long, including a morning Story Time at the Zoo and an evening Roar & Pour event. The Fiesta Cultural will celebrate Hispanic and Latin American heritage and culture, placing a special focus on the Zoo’s animals whose species originate from South and Central America.
The Fiesta Cultural is in partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County. The multi-cultural, family-friendly event will highlight the colorful culture, diverse music with a Latin DJ and two live bands, and the delicious food from the Hispanic and Latin American heritages. Regular Zoo admission prices apply.
The event includes a bilingual Story Time at the Zoo book reading at 10:30 a.m. in the Zoo’s Conservation Station. Story Time at the Zoo will feature the book “’Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,’ said the Sloth,” by Eric Carle, read in both Spanish and English. Children will be brought to the sloth habitat after the book is read.
The Fiesta Cultural also includes a Roar & Pour event, featuring live Latin and reggae-infused music by Moska Project. The Zoo will have some café tables and chairs in the Fountain area during the event, and guests are invited to bring folding lawn chairs for comfort while listening to bands. Take a Child Outside Week: September 24 through September 30 — Take a Child Outside Week is a program designed to help break down obstacles that keep children from discovering the natural world. By arming parents, teachers and other caregivers with resources on outdoor activities, our goal is to help children across the country develop a better understanding and appreciation of the environment in which they live, and a burgeoning enthusiasm for its exploration. Going outside connects children to the natural world, helps kids focus in school, and reduces chances of obesity. So take a child outside, and head on over to the Zoo!
Safari Nights: “Izel the Jaguar’s Animal Print Birthday Bash” theme: September 26, 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Help us wish a happy 9th birthday to Izel the jaguar during this fun-filled Safari Night! Guests who wear animal print clothing will be entered to win a Zoo prize pack valued at $150, to be drawn at the end of the Safari Night series in October.
