(West Palm Beach, FL – May 26, 2022) The League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County (LWVPBC)today invited local taxpayers, property owners, and concerned citizens to two upcoming Hot Topic Discussions, both at noon and on Zoom:

The Importance of Public Defenders on the Supreme Court

Sharing the criminal defense perspective will be Carey Haughwout, Public Defender in Palm Beach County since 2001. A board-certified criminal trial lawyer, she established and chaired the Re-entry Task Force for the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission which established services for ex-offenders to reduce recidivism.

Civil Rights in Florida

James Shaw, Chair of the ACLU of Florida’s State Legal Panel, will discuss the current state of civil rights statewide and changes in the law from this year’s Legislative session.
