2nd Annual Florida Brain Cancer 5K to Take Place March 6, 2011 in Palm Beach

2010 inaugural event raised over $100,000 – 2011 event projected to raise $200,000

WASHINGTON DC (November 19, 2010) Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure will host the 2nd Annual Florida Brain Cancer 5K on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the John Prince Park in Palm Beach County. More information and online registration for the Run/Walk is available at www.FBC5K.org.

The proceeds generated from this event will be directed to brain cancer research, with a focus on Florida-based projects and collaborations. In its first year the Florida Brain Cancer 5K (formerly the Florida Brain Cancer Walk) raised over $100,000. The event’s success led to an unprecedented joint research grant program with the Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research resulting in $325,000 in research grants to Florida-based brain cancer research projects. Past on past success and current participation, the 2011 Florida Brain Cancer 5K is projected to raised $200,000.

The 5K Run/Walk, which will feature both a running course and walking course, is open to participants of all fitness levels and is family friendly. In addition, participants are encouraged to create corporate and family/friend fundraising teams. Awards will be given to the top runners, as well as to the top three fundraising individuals and teams.

“Cutting-edge brain cancer research is happening in Florida thanks to institutions like the universities in state university system (e.g., UF, UCF, UWF), Moffitt and Scripps,” said Max Wallace, CEO of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. “With the Florida Brain Cancer 5K, our hope is to fuel the collaboration between these institutions and help raise awareness about this disease and the work being done in Florida to find a cure.”

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure also hosts the Race for Hope in Washington, D.C., which will mark its 14th year on May 1, 2011.  More information on the D.C. race is available at www.curebraintumors.org.
