Annie at the Lake Worth Playhouse, April 15th - May 1st

The Playhouse production of ANNIE is directed by Playhouse favorite, Jami Dolan.  The expansive cast includes many Playhouse favorites and more than twenty children – young and up-in-coming talent not to be missed.

Synopsis:

Leapin’ Lizards!  The popular comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world’s best-loved musicals about a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan.  In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

History:

ANNIE premiered on Broadway in April 21, 1977, ran for six years and 2, 377 performances, setting a record for the Alvin Theater (now the Neil Simon Theatre) when it closed on January 2, 1983.  It was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and won 7 including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.  It has been celebrated in many Broadway revivals, transformed into classic films and performed and reinterpreted countless times on the stages of many theaters.

Special Partnerships:

The Lake Worth Playhouse partnered with Heart Gallery, Inc. to highlight youth available for adoption in Palm Beach County. There will be images of children who need good homes posted in our lobby for patrons to view and contribute towards their care.  For more information about the Heart Gallery, please visit www.hcpbc.org.

The Lake Worth Playhouse is featuring a dog from South Florida Recycled Dog Rescue as Annie’s dog, Sandy.  This dog will be featured in the performances and in the playbill as available for adoption.  For more information about the South Florida Recycled Dog Rescue, please visit www.sflrecycleddogrescue.com.
