Faith Farm Wins the Going Green Contest!

Faith Farm Ministries was recipient of the Top Award in the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties’ 2011 Nonprofits Going Green Contest as announced on April 16, 2011, at the 3rd Annual e4 Sustainability Summit at the Waterfront and City Commons in West Palm Beach.  The contest was sponsored by Environmental Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation, Florida Power & Light and Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company.

Faith Farm Ministries received the “Barbara Groves Eco-Impact Award” in the amount of $7,500.  The award, created in honor of the local philanthropist, recognizes the organization for “showing the greatest commitment to greening efforts by reducing energy dependence, limiting waste and conserving water accomplished through the most cost-efficient means.”

Dean O. Webb, Executive Director of the three Faith Farm Ministries’ locations in Boynton Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Okeechobee, congratulated Boynton Beach staff members Troy Hardy, Campus Director, an excellent facilitator, Christopher Milu, Assistant Campus Director, who was the driving force behind the application, and Mark LaCount, Recycling Supervisor, who is the driving force behind recycling efforts at all campuses, teaching other staff members and maximizing the recycling efforts.

Through Mark’s efforts, more than one million pounds of scrap was kept out of the public landfills and thousands of dollars were saved on dumping fees, while earning revenue of $128,000 to help fund our 9 month, residential drug and alcohol recovery program for men and women who have lost control of their lives due to struggles with addiction.  Free to the students in recovery, the Faith Farm program is funded through your donations and purchases at our Thrift Stores and other initiatives like that of our recycling program.

Upon learning of the award, Mr. Webb wrote to his staff saying, “I am so glad to be associated with such a great group of people in this ministry.  God sees what a difference you make on a daily basis … NOW, the community also knows about our efforts to be responsible to our environment.”
