CALLING ALL SCIENCE-SAVVY LADIES
South Florida Science Center and Aquarium announces Ladies Night Out
(West Palm Beach, Fla.) Want a brainy-excuse for a ladies night out? The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium has you covered, with the perfect girl-gathering for your science-savvy girlfriends. Don’t know if your friends are science-savvy? Do they like cocktails? (Check!) Make-up? (Of course!) Food and wine samples? (Who doesn’t?) Then this event is for you! Let the Science Center be your cover on Friday, August 22, from 6 – 9 p.m., and all for a great cause.
While mixing and mingling, guests will enjoy an evening of excitement and entertainment – all with a science twist, including cocktail concoctions, lotion-potion labs, gem and mineral presentations, beauty demonstrations, food and wine samples, raffle prizes and giveaways. Participants Include: Palm Beach Outlets, Blue Martini CityPlace, Tambela Natural Perfumes, Alex and Ani, Shoppe 561, Onli Beverages, Aveda and Bond Street Salon. HERLIFE magazine is the official media partner.
Open to women 21 and over, admission for Ladies Night Out is $7 in advance and $10 on the day of the event, with funds raised earmarked to support the Science Center’s newest education program, GEMS Club, standing for Girls Excelling in Math and Science. Open to girls in grades 3 – 8, the free club gathering is an opportunity to empower young girls to explore STEM fields. Meeting on the last Tuesday of the month, each event has a different theme. The next in the series, “Amazing Engineers,” on August 26, is a sweet succession to the inaugural club meeting – a sold-out success – encouraging girls to explore their ingenuity by building a bridge out of candy.
“The Science Center’s mission is to open every mind to science,” said Kate Arrizza, COO of the Science Center. “And to do so, we are constantly creating programs that appeal to all ages and sexes. Ladies Night Out welcomes women to have fun – learning the science behind cocktails and makeup – all while supporting a great cause, our new GEMS Club. Women tend to be underrepresented in science careers, and we want to change that. We want to show girls today that they can be chemists, engineers, pilots and more, the options are truly infinite. We are grateful to our partners for their support. We know that with their help, this event will be a great success and a huge benefit to the girls of our community.”
The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit. The recent recipient of the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ Award for Non-Profit of the Year in the Arts/Culture category, the Science Center is currently hosting Mazes, through September 14, 2014, in its newly expanded exhibit hall. The exhibition winds its way over 9,000 square-feet with more than 60 puzzles, and leads guests on an adventure through a series of interactive brain-teasers, 3-D puzzles and full body games.
