Casey Cares Foundation Brings Community Together (Virtually) To Symbolize Support for Critically Ill Children

While we still cannot gather in person, Casey Cares Foundation knows how much togetherness means to critically ill children. To bring a sense of community to those in need, the organization has created a Cinco de Mayo virtual walk for a little fun, a little exercise and the chance to help the critically ill children who need us most.

The virtual event will take place on Tuesday, May 5th and can be done at any time and location convenient to participants. Participants are encouraged to register for the Casey Cares Cinco de Mayo 5K each participant will receive a festive race shirt, finishers medal and race bib! Registrations can be made by visiting

“For every registration we will be able to provide one family with a movie and pizza night to create memories, some possibly the last memory for their family, that last a lifetime,” shared Casey Baynes, founder of Casey Cares Foundation.

Baynes created the foundation twenty years ago with the mission to bring smiles to critically ill children and their families. From leukemia and brain tumors to sickle cell disease or organ failure, the treatment of these illnesses has far-reaching impacts, not just on the child, but on the entire family. Casey Cares provides families support for their well-being via psychosocial palliative care.

“The most vulnerable children and their families rely on our programs, now more than ever,” continued Baynes. “Our typical programs include tickets to baseball games, the circus, amusement parks, mini-vacations, birthday gifts, assistance with grocery bills, and so much more. Obviously, most of these programs have come to a standstill amid this pandemic. What has increased exponentially are the requests from our families for support to ease the toll of prolonged isolation as well as financial support for food and grocery bills. We need the community’s support to help our most vulnerable and ill.”

Each registration will provide a care package for a Casey Cares family which includes a gift card for groceries, a meal delivery, and movie rental or video streaming service. The package will also include snacks, pajamas for the children and small toys.

Participants are asked to tag @CaseyCares to share their pictures from walk day and tag their finish line photo with #irunbecauseCaseyCares. To learn more about ways you can donate or participate in this event, or to receive services, please visit caseycares.org or call (954) 821-0191.

About Casey Cares Foundation: Casey Cares knows how difficult life can be for families with critically ill children. We focus on the entire family, not simply the sick child. We help keep families’ spirits high by arranging bi-monthly programming – whether it’s a movie night and a fresh pair of pajamas or the chance to attend a major sporting event. Founded 20 years ago, Casey Cares makes life a lot better for families in eight states including Florida and D.C. Rather than once-a-lifetime or once-a-year, we believe the best palliative care comes from continuous, ongoing support. Learn more at caseycares.org.
