(West Palm Beach, FL – December 13, 2012)  The Raymond F. lourdes_lopezKravis Center for the Performing Arts is pleased that dancer photographer Steven Caras will introduce Miami City Ballet’s new leader Lourdes Lopez at the first Lunch & Learn event in 2013. The ArtSmart Lunch & Learn Series is co-chaired by Caras and Lee Wolf, a dynamic public speaker and a member of the Kravis Center Board of Directors. Lunch will be prepared by Catering at The Breakers at the Kravis Center for this Kravis Center’s Cultural Society Event.

January 14 – 11:30 a.m.  (Monday)

LUNCH & LEARN

Former Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet and Co-Founder and Director of Morphoses dance company, Lourdes Lopez sets out to blaze her own trail as Miami City Ballet’s new artistic visionary after Edward Villella, the company’s Founding Artistic Director, stepped down earlier this year. Born in Cuba yet raised and trained as a dancer in Miami, Ms. Lopez is clearly a ‘local girl comes home’ story as she now assumes this much sought after post in the ballet world. Through film and images, Steven Caras, a contemporary of Lopez at NYCB, will set the stage prior to his intimate and engaging conversation with her, reflecting on the artist’s colorful childhood, her rapid rise to star dancer, and her eclectic post-performance careers, all of which contribute to making this exciting chapter in her life a most natural progression.
