18th Annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival

Watch art emerge February 25– 26 in downtown Lake Worth

More than 600 artists will use the asphalt as their canvas to transform the streets of downtown Lake Worth into a temporary outdoor museum February 25 – 26 during the 18th Annual Street Painting Festival. The paintings – made only of chalk – range in style from Renaissance Classicism to Cubism and Pop Art, and include both original artwork and masterpiece reproductions. These pieces of art remain only until the next rain washes them away.

The Lake Worth Street Painting Festival claims bragging rights as the world’s  largest, covering more area than any other festival of its kind. This  “outdoor gallery” will be located on Lake and Lucerne Avenues, spanning between  Dixie Highway   and  Federal Highway .  It all starts at 10:00 AM and ADMISSION IS FREE. Parking is available throughout the downtown area, and valet service will also be available. Free festival transportation will make timely loops from the Lake Worth Tri-Rail station to City Hall during festival hours.

The event is produced by Street Painting Festival Inc., a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, and the Greater Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the City of Lake Worth . Proceeds benefit the Street Painting Festival scholarships offered to graduating Palm Beach County high school students, as well as other community projects associated with the arts.

The Tradition of Street Painting

Traced back to 16th century Italy when itinerant artists would use their chalks to transform pavement into a makeshift canvas, street painting has retained its appeal through the centuries. As in ages past, crowds still gather to watch as fine works of art emerge. The “paintings” last only until the next rain, but the lively spirit and accessibility of the exhibition captivates new audiences each year and inspires lasting memories.
