Cheer for the Cure!

Komen Calls Out for Cheerleaders to Volunteer at Upcoming Race

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., (Jan. 12, 2010) – As the 19th Annual Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure® approaches— taking place on the morning of January 30 along Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach— the non–profit organization is seeking middle, high school and college cheerleaders who will volunteer to cheer on the runners, walkers participants and survivors as part of the I AM THE CURE.® program.

I AM THE CURE.® is a breast health program from the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that teaches people simple steps they need to know to take charge of their breast health.  It speaks to the importance of early detection and provides simple, action-oriented chants that Race participants can take home and put into action.  These chants, and the simple steps that lead to early detection, will come to life as more than 23,000 Komen South Florida Race for the Cure participants make I AM THE CURE.® their rallying cry on Race day.

All official volunteer cheerleaders will receive a signed form documenting volunteer service hours for school or work.

To volunteer and show your cheerleader skills, and join in the fight to find the cure for breast cancer, please contact Betsy Golub at [email protected].

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, we have invested more than $1.3 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
