Third Annual Lebow Awards for Excellence in Shakespearean Performance
This year marks the third annual Lebow Award for Excellence in Shakespearean Performance presented by Kids’ Dreams, Inc. in memory of Alan Lebow. On Saturday, December 17, twenty-five Title I high school students participated in the Lebow Award judging. The students performed short selections from Shakespearean plays before a panel of distinguished judges and were scored in five categories of performance which included concentration, emotional commitment, energy, evidence of understanding and overall performance. The two Lebow Award Winners and the two Honorable Mention students were invited to perform at the awards reception, scheduled for January 19 in the Kravis Center ’s Khoury Family Dance Rehearsal Hall prior to the 7 pm performance of Twelfth Night performed by the Classical Theatre Project in the Helen K. Persson Hall.
The two top winners, Jonathan Raffoul (Boynton Beach, Junior) and Johnson Sinophat (Palm Beach Lakes, Junior), will be presented with a check for $1,000, the two Honorable Mention students, Rood Emmanuel (Inlet Grove, Sophomore) and Angel Padua (Palm Beach Lakes, Junior), will each receive a check for $800 and seven additional, Distinguished Participants, Brendan Gardner (Boynton Beach, Junior);Yamari Hanslip (Palm Beach Gardens, Sophomore); Bridgette Karam (Boynton Beach, Junior); Isabella Letourneau (Atlantic, Freshman); Alex Stephenson (Santaluces, Junior); Simone Stewart (Atlantic, Freshman) and Tatyana Renald (Inlet Grove, Junior), will each receive checks for $200. All twenty-five participants will each receive a pair of tickets for the evening’s performance of the Shakespearean comedy, Twelfth Night.

In memory of Mr. Lebow and his love for dramatic recitation, the public charity founded by the Lebows – called Kids’ Dreams – is presenting the Alan Lebow Award for Excellence in Shakespearean Performance. Two $1,000, two $800 and seven $200 cash prizes are being awarded this evening at a special reception prior to The Classical Theatre Project ‘s performance of Twelfth Night in the Helen K. Persson Hall.
Participating full-time high school students enrolled in local Title I High Schools, with qualifying financial need, were judged on a memorized Shakespearean selection of three minutes or less on December 17. The student participants are being honored tonight. The four top awardees have been invited to perform their Shakespeare selections.
