Although Dr. Miguel Grillo provides his patients with state-of-the-art dental care, offering the most innovative services to the community, that isn’t the main reason his patients remain loyal. The level of care Dr. Grillo gives is what sets him apart from the rest; personalized visits and genuine concern for each person that enters his office.

“The main thing we focus on is the care we give to the patients,” Grillo said. “It’s very personalized. We know our patients by their first names.”

In 2006, Dr. Grillo opened his practice, Healthy Smiles Dental Group. His office, located in the Kobosko’s Crossing plaza in Wellington, offers general preventative and diagnostic care, along with specialty services such as implant, cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Dr. Grillo came from a family of medical and dental professionals.

“I always wanted to be a dentist. I liked dentistry because I was involved with it since I was very young,” he said.

Dr. Grillo started his career in odontology, the study of teeth, their structure and health, in his native land of the Dominican Republic. He studied at the Universidad Odontologica Dominicana and received his degree of Dental Surgery in 1986. After graduating, he returned to the United States where he continued his dental training at New York University. He completed his residency and fellowship at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., working in an integrated physician-dentist program.

In 1994, Dr. Grillo moved back to the Dominican Republic. There he opened his first practice in Santo Domingo, Grupo Odontologico Dr. Grillo. He also did some philanthropic work, starting up a non-profit organization that provided medical and dental care to families who could not afford it.

Dr. Grillo returned to the United States in 1998 and worked for King’s Dental Group, a private practice, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Upon retuning to New York, he received his Mastership from the American Dental Implant Association and a fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Currently, Dr. Grillo serves the dental needs of the Wellington area at his own practice, Healthy Smiles Dental Group. Here his services range from general dentistry to teeth whitening, veneers and implants, dental restoration and treating the overall facial form, offering Botox treatment.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. Grillo is keeping current in the dental community. He prides himself on keeping up with the latest innovations in dental technology; belonging to dental societies, attending study clubs and seminars, and doing continuing education.

He also gives back to the community, doing philanthropic work at the Caridad Center in Boynton Beach. Every month he provides his time and dental services to those without insurance. Dr. Grillo is also the co-founder of the Dominican Healthcare Association of South Florida. The organization, made up of healthcare professionals of Dominican descent, focuses on providing one-of-a-kind care to South Florida.

Dr. Grillo strives to be a mentor to his colleagues and future healthcare professionals. He is always willing to help students interested in the dental and medical field, whether it’s allowing them to shadow him in the office or just giving them advice on how to get into the field.

Along with a thriving career in dentistry, Dr. Grillo has been happily married to his wife, Wendy, for 28 years and is the proud father of four sons. In his spare time, he focuses on his other passion, aviation. He is a licensed pilot and has been an avid flier for 4 years.
