Wellington Announces Green Partnership with Waste Management

Wellington, a Gold Certified Green Local Government, is once again taking the lead in environmental sustainability.  Through a new partnership with Waste Management, Wellington is proud to announce that its trash and recycling will be picked up by trucks using compressed natural gas (CNG), a much cleaner alternative to gasoline and diesel fuel.  Wellington becomes the first municipality in Palm Beach County to take advantage of this green technology.

CNG-powered trucks have important environmental advantages.  Each CNG-powered truck saves, on average, 8,000 gallons of diesel from being used per year, while reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions by 22 metric tons.  Residents will also benefit in another way: CNG-fueled trucks are much quieter than those fueled by diesel.

Eleven CNG trucks will service Wellington with each truck reaching 147 houses per hour, ensuring that trash pick-up will remain quick and efficient.

This partnership continues Wellington’s strong commitment to providing the best possible service to its residents while being a local leader in environmental sustainability.
