The Wellington Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Vince Bonvento, Assistant County Administrator, Public Safety Director and Dr. Vincent Encomio from the Florida Oceanographic Society as key note speakers for their July 21st luncheon. The topic will be the BP Oil Spill and the county’s safety plan should it reach our shores as well as the environmental effect on marine life and our waters. The luncheon will be held at Binks Forest Golf and Country Club, 400 Binks Forest Dr.
Vince Bonvento, Assistant County Administrator, Public Safety Director, joined the County in 1975 as the Federal Grants Coordinator. Mr. Bonvento oversees the Criminal Justice Commission, the Office of the Medical Examiner, Public Safety and serves as liaison to Court Programs and the Solid Waste Authority.
Dr. Vincent Encomio loves oysters and shellfish. He has a passion for the environment, its creatures, and their preservation.
As Research Scientist at Florida Oceanographic Society, Dr. Encomio initiates, directs and coordinates the FOS Research Department activities and programs. The principal research project that has captured his imagination as well as his skills is the oyster reef restoration project, including oyster gardening. Restoration of the oyster beds is essential to the health of the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon and to the sustainability of the oyster population.
With his teaching and mentoring experience, Dr. Encomio is able to involve community members in his research project while maintaining the science at its highest level.
