The Plaza Theatre Announces Lineup for 2012- 2013 Season

 

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL. –  The newest theatre in Palm Beach County, The Plaza Theatre, is proud to announce the upcoming schedule of performances for 2012 and early 2013. Fulfilling its promise to bring light-hearted entertainment to the stage, with a riveting drama at times, the Theatre’s line-up is sure keep audiences coming back for more.

Cabaret Series – July 7 – August 5, 2012

 

With a series of shows each weekend, the stage will sizzle at The Plaza Theatre with the sultry sounds of South Florida ’s most recognized theatre and cabaret performers. Shows will include Broadway at The Plaza; The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Friends; The Sinatra Songbook; A Broadway Baby; and The Sounds of Rodgers & Hart. Performers will include: Melissa Jacobson, Jody Langel,John Lariviere, Missy McArdle, Anna McNeely, Jon Zimmerman, and Mike Westrich.

 

Shows run on weekends only, Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:00. Tickets are $25,with group and subscription discounts available.

 

Irving Berlin Salutes America – August 16 – September 9, 2012

This cabaret revue, playing nationally since 2002, will pay tribute to one of the greatest composers of all time, Irving Berlin. With a slew of standards andpatriotic songs, we salute the good fortune we have to live in our great country, the United States of America . Featuring songs like: Oh! How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning; This Is A Great Country; Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor; This Is The Army Mr. Jones; Cheek to Cheek, There’s No Business Like Show Business; and many more. Driving Miss Daisy – October 18 – November 18, 2012

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play tells the story of the long-standing relationship between a stubborn Southern matriarch and her kindhearted chauffeur. Their tale of pride, changing times, and an incredible friendship has warmed the hearts of millions. Don’t miss your opportunity to see this celebrated show in our community! Harriet Oser will play the role of Daisy; John Archie will play the role of Hoke; and Ken Clement will play the role of Boolie.

 

Luv – A Comedy – December 6 – 30, 2012

Ahysterical comedy by Murray Schisgal (author of Tootsie), Luv was a hit on Broadway and turned into an incredibly popular film. A review by the New York Times calls the play a “…delicious spoof on a multitude of matters.” Harry Berlin is loveless and in despair while Milt Manville, Harry’s college roommate, is in love with a woman other than his wife Ellen. Milt hatches a plot to get Harry and Ellen to fall in love with each other so he can be released to marry his “soul mate,’ and everyone will live happily ever after. And so the comedy ensues. A comedy of manners, mishaps,twists and turns, and general hysteria! Performers cast so far are the leading couple in South Florida theatre, Carbonell Award winners Avi Hoffman and Laura Turnbull.

 

Next To Normal – January 17 – February 10, 2013

The winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for drama, along with multiple Tony awards, this riveting musical will have your attention from the opening scene. As one of the most talked about shows in years, which pushed Broadway in new directions, the emotional content in this musical will provide an authenticpicture of mental illness, and have the audience in its grasp from beginning to end. Reprising the role she played at the Actor’s Playhouse, Jody Langel will play Diana in a production sure to be the talk of the town.

 

Waistwatchers – The Musical! – February 21 – March 31, 2013

We all know the struggles of trying to lose that extra weight, but this hilarious musical comedy will take it to a whole new level! The show, which has been playing to sold-out audiences across the country since its 2007 debut, takes you inside a women’s gym as four friends work out their struggles with diet, exercise, plastic surgery, and of course, men. Featuring hits like The World’s Greatest Ice Cream, Botox Queen, If I Had a Bagel, Viagra, and If I Were A Size Two, this is a show you won’t want to miss!

 

Shows will run Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows beginning nightly at 7:30 p.m. Matinee performances are available at 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The Plaza Theatre, a not-for-profit 250-seat theatre, is home to a variety of light-hearted shows, with an occasional gripping drama, that will please every show-goer.
