Upcoming Senior Programming at the Wellington Community Center
Wellington is pleased to offer a variety of programs for adults ages 55 and older at the Wellington Community Center located at 12150 Forest Hill Boulevard. Pre-registration is required for all activities at least 48 hours in advance. Registrations can be made in person, online at www.wellingtonfl.gov, by calling the Wellington Community Center at 561-753-2489, ext. 0, or via fax at 561-791-4089.
Weiss Family Chiropractics Seminars – At Weiss Family Chiropractic Center, they believe life should be enjoyed. Their goal is to help your body reach its full potential so you can live pain free with proper motion and an overall increased health. This summer come discover how they achieve this goal at their monthly lunch & learn seminars. Seminars are 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will take place June 4th, July 11th, and August 28th. A light lunch will be provided to those who pre-register.
Wii Games – Video games aren’t just for kids! Come see why they are so popular and get your daily exercise at the same time with a FREE Wii class on Thursdays, June 6th, August 1st, & September 5th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wii takes place on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month. We invite you all to come to learn & play or to bring your own games and teach your peers!
Morselife – Morselife is dedicated to enhancing senior living, and each month the professionals host a new life enhancing presentation. This summer each month will be a different book review from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. The book for June 3rd will be “Honolulu” by Alan Brennert. July 8th is a discussion about Alexander McCall Smith. August 5th will discuss “Loving Frank” by Nancy Horan and “The Paris Wife” by Paula McLain. The summer book series will conclude on September 9th with “New York-the Novel” by Edward Rutherford. A light lunch will be provided to those who pre-register.
Care Plus, Health Plans, INC. – This July come in out of the heat for a Classic Movie Matinee & classic refreshments sponsored by Care Plus, Health Plans, INC., a company dedicated to “Keeping the health in Health Care” by providing the best & most up to date information on Medicare. Please pre-register.*
Social Services Retirement Planning Group – This summer come to a film festival & enjoy an evening out with a good movie, trivia, and good people for a great time. This FREE summer film series is brought to you by Linda Ellis in partnership with Social Services Retirement Planning Group. The shows will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, and the schedule is June 11th, “The Notebook”, July 9th, “Some Like It Hot”, & August 13th, “Silver Linings Playbook”. September will conclude with a very important informational seminar about Medicare Open Enrollment that begins in October.
Bingo – Join us each month on the 2nd Wednesday of the month for an exciting afternoon of fun & bingo with prizes sponsored by Humana! Games begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until approximately 3:00 p.m.. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m., and the cost to play bingo is $3. Please note that we will no longer have boxed lunches for purchase. Cookies and coffee will be available, but players can also bring your lunches & snacks.
Wellington Regional Medical Center – If you are looking to improve your health & well being, join the physicians of Wellington Regional Medical Center as they educate you on the popular health topics of today so you can live a healthy life. Seminars will be June 20th, July 18th, August 15th, & September 19th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided to those who pre-register.
AARP Driver Safety – Join Mary Lynn Blakely on the 3rd Thursday of the month to refresh your driving skills. Classes are June 20th, July 18th, August 15th, and September 19th from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members and must be paid by check to the instructor on the day of the class. Students should prepare for the day by bringing water, lunch and snacks.
Shalloway & Shalloway – Join us on June 5th, July 2nd, August 1st, or September 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as we welcome Elder Law & Special Needs Trust Attorney, Mark Shalloway to the WCC. As an accredited V.A. attorney, he will be speaking about protecting your assets and getting the best long term care (not insurance) at home, in an assisted living facility, or in a nursing home. Senior Aerobics – Stay in shape with Lynn Spoor’s Senior Aerobics classes, offered monthly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The cost is $40 per month for Wellington residents and $50 for non-residents.
Needlecraft – If you like to get crafty, join Iris Goldson every Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to learn new needlecraft techniques. This class is free and all skill levels are welcome.
