Live Like Jake’s Virtual Poker-4-Prevention Charity Tournament A Huge Success
Palm Beach Gardens, FL – Live Like Jake’s annual “Poker 4 Prevention” Charity Tournament was held the evening of October 22nd. Close to fifty poker players participated on-line and raised enough funds to provide nearly 20 more self-rescue swim scholarships to children in need.
“Everyone had a wonderful time thanks to our generous sponsors: Jedd & Dara Canty, Allyson Sullivan at Lang Realty, and Kay Coastal Designs,” said Keri Morrison, organization founder and mother to Jake, who was lost in a tragic drowning incident. “Our 2020 participants helped us to raise funds to support drowning prevention and created awareness of the importance of safety measures that should be in place in and around water.”
There wasn’t a dry eye in sight as the 2020 “Be the Light” Award was presented to Granger and Amber Smith for their philanthropic efforts and charitable contributions dedicated to the River Kelly Fund, named in honor of their three-year-old son who drowned last June. The Smiths shared their story and reception of the award on their YouTube channel in an emotional video called “Our Unexpected Surprise:” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV8Av3sSzcE.
The second annual event was held virtually due to the pandemic, yet it still proved to be an ace-in-the-hole thanks to the top three poker tournament winners who donated their winnings back to Live Like Jake. Winners were: 1st place – James Hoy; 2nd place – Sean Gardiner; 3rd place – Ethan Ruby; 4th place – Kenneth Botte; and 5th place – Nancy Bryson. The drawing for a one-week cabin vacation in Helen, Georgia was won by Kyle Holbrook. The Halloween costume contest for Best Poker Face was won by Rex Knoth.
