HEALTH CARE DISTRICT OF PALM BEACH COUNTY DEDICATES NEW EDWARD J. HEALEY REHABILITATION AND NURSING CENTER IN RIVIERA BEACH

Riviera Beach, FL — The Health Care District of Palm Beach County will mark the dedication of the Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center replacement facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13th at the site of the new building in Riviera Beach. The new 120-bed Healey Center replaces the existing facility in West Palm Beach, which has served the needs of the community since 1917.

The Healey Center serves eligible Palm Beach County residents with traumatic injuries or debilitating illnesses. While the nearly 100 residents range in age from 22 to 85, the majority are under 64 years old. The Healey Center’s professional staff delivers more than 26,000 occupational, physical and speech therapy services each year, giving long-term patients a second chance at quality of life.

The new building was completed on-time and under budget. The modern and spacious design gives residents more privacy, brings common areas like dining and day rooms closer to the residents’ rooms, and enables staff to provide more care inside the residents’ rooms. High efficiency environmental systems will lower operating costs and improve indoor air quality. The facility is hurricane-resistant and exceeds prevailing hurricane codes and standards.

“We are proud that this modern, efficient facility will soon be home for some of Palm Beach County’s most needy and vulnerable residents, who are younger than the average nursing home resident,” said Ronald J. Wiewora, MD, MPH, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer for the Health Care District of Palm Beach County.

“After participating in and leading the District’s planning and project oversight over the years, it is rewarding to dedicate the new Healey Center, which will soon be delivering high-quality care in a facility that meets today’s standards of care,” said Carol A. Roberts, Vice-Chair of the Health Care District Board.
