Cardinal Newman High School Crusader Student Government and Key Club Students Take Top Honors at Conventions!

 

Congratulations to the Cardinal Newman Student Government Association, which was named the number one SGA Council in the state of Florida at this past weekend’s Florida Association of Student Councils Convention in Fort Meyers!  Nearly 90 high schools participated in the convention.  Special recognition goes to Amanda Alvarez, Lindsey Tercilla, and Patrick Iyampialli, along with moderator Mr. Bautista and assistant moderator Mrs. McClarren.

Cardinal Newman High School would like to announce that our very prestigious Key Club has completed another highly successful year in service. This year the Key Club performed 32,968 service hours, and fund raised $32,925.00.  Both President Sam Morales and Vice President Wes Morton were recognized as distinguished in their respective positions and Sam Morales was recognized as the G. Harold Martin Most Outstanding President in the State of Florida. Sam Morales was also awarded third place in the speech competition after speaking to 1500 high school students about what it takes to succeed. President Sam Morales, Vice President Wes Morton, Lt. Governor Austin McCauley, and Treasurer Blake McCauley all received the Governors Citation Ribbon, Governors Alliance Ribbon, and Convention Pin.

 

At the platinum club level, the Cardinal Newman Key Club was awarded second place in the service hour category for completing the second largest quantity of service hours in the State of Florida, as well as second place in the service award for the highest average in service hours per member. The Club was also a finalist for the K-Family Relations award for the best overall cooperative effort with the K-Kids of Wynnebrook Elementary School, and the Kiwanis of Westside West Palm Beach. Last but not least the Club received Honorable Mention for the project “Every Child a Swimmer.”

 

The Key Club also received second place in the Non Traditional Scrap Book contest. This Scrap Book which was created by Heather Roschefer, featured a large Honda Classic Recycling Bin, which was covered in a collage of Key Club Faces. The project will be on display at the Key Club International Convention in Dallas, Texas.
