Mounts Botanical Garden to Host Family & Friends Health & Wellness Day, February 27

(West Palm Beach, FL – February 17, 2022) Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will be hosting four hours of Family & Friends fun on Sunday, February 27, from 9 am to 1 pm. Planned activities for Health & Wellness Day include Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and so much more—Leaf Printing, SoFlow Snow (bubbles), live music, Latin jam dance, drums, hula hoops, and Joydust™.

The Mounts Nursery will be fully-staffed to answer questions while offering a wide selection of Florida native plants and herbs. Purchasable refreshments include organic, cold-pressed juices from Sqzd Juice and vegan cookies from Amy’s Lil’ Chunks of Love.

“All Health & Wellness Day events are family friendly, so bring the kids and try something new,” says Mounts Curator-Director Rochelle Wolberg. “Best of all, ticket-holders can also enjoy our sensational exhibition Sean Kenney’s Nature POP!, featuring 40 colorful sculptures created with 800,000 LEGO® bricks.”

Schedule of Activities

9 to 10 am

Sunrise Yoga with certified fitness/yoga teacher Hegina Rodrigues. This class combines gentle yoga and stretching with the use of a chair or wall.

9 to 9:30 am

Live Music with Alex Johnson on Viola

9:30 to 10 am

Tai Chi with certified teacher Josefina McMahon. Experience this ancient Chine art form/exercise that uses gentle, flowing movements that are profoundly powerful and seek to magnify, strengthen, and encourage the flow of the internal energy known as “chi”.

10 to 10:30 am

Qi Gong with certified teacher Roxanne Cumberland. Experience the four elements of this ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique: 1. Breathwork (Spinal cord breathing); 2. Activate qi (knocking, shacking); 3. Warmup (pump, swimming dragon); 4. Stretch (full body flow).

10 to 11 am

Nature Wands and Leaf Prints with April Krebs. Creative fun for all ages

10:30 to 11 am

Joyflow + Joydust with Sarah Gaines, who created Joyflow™ (movement) and Joydust™ (biodegradable glitter ) and has presented at events, studios, and festivals worldwide.

11 to 11:30 am

Nature Journaling with Autumn Kioti. Participants have fun with this creative, therapeutic citizen science, while recording personal observations, perceptions, questions, facts, and phenomenon.

11 to 11:30 am

Latin Jam music with Anna Nunes.

11:30 am to Noon

Buteyko Breathing and Yoga Nidra with certified yoga and meditation teacher Heather Berg. Learn the correct way to breathe for relaxation and optimal health. This workshop of theory and practical Buteyko Breathing Method exercises prepares the mind and body for a restful Yoga Nidra practice. No prior breath work or Yoga experience is necessary.

11:30 am to Noon

Reiki and Sound Bowls with certified meditation teacher and sound healer Jessica Prestia. Relieve tension and stress with Reiki, a powerful healing tool, and experience the soothing, pure sounds of the sound bowls that help participants to connect, relax and center themselves.

Noon to 12:45 pm

Hula Hoop Fun with Casandra Tanenbaum.

12:15 to 1 pm

Drum Workshop-Circle with Marijah Speziale. Experience the joy of drumming. Bring your own drum if you have one; a few drums will be provided. Speziale has studied with African Master drummers for years and will teach the West African style.

This event is co-produced by Real Connections South Florida.  Participating teachers and artists include Heather Berg, Roxanne Cumberland, Sarah Gaines, Alex Johnson, Autumn Kioti, April Krebs, Marijah Speziale, Josefina McMahon, Anna Nunes, Jess Pfeffer, Jess Prestia, Hegina Rodrigues, and Casandra Tanenbaum.

Member Prices: $20 Family & Friends Ticket (good for 2 adults/2 kids); $10 for individual adult tickets; $3 for ages 6-17; free for children under 6.

Nonmember prices: $45 Family & Friends Ticket (good for 2 adults/2 kids); $20 for individual adult tickets; $5 for ages 6-17; free for children under 6.
