Wellington, FL – The Lady Wolverines of Wellington High made it two in a row on Monday, October 18 when they took first place in the District 18 golf championship at the Wanderers Club in Wellington.
The returning champs were led by senior Melissa Welch, who shot an 82, followed closely by freshman Janelle Johnson, who carded an 83. Sophomore Mary Dixon finished with an 85 and juniors Kaci Bennett and Allison Parssi finished scores of 91 and 113, respectively.
Finishing second was Santaluces High School, which also produced the tournament’s low scores of the day – with Samantha Smolen and Radi Saura both finishing at 74. Saura took the top individual honors after defeating Smolen in a one-hole playoff. Coming in third was Royal Palm Beach.
The three teams now move on to the regional qualifier, scheduled for Monday, October 25 at Vero Beach Country Club.
“Once again the Wanderers Club did an excellent job hosting the tournament,” said Wellington coach Laurie Bawinkle. “Everyone at the club worked very hard to make this a great event, and we appreciate their hospitality.”
