16th Annual Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run and Walk
The Palms West Community Foundation, Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, Wellington and presenting sponsor Royal Palm Toyota are proud to announce the 16th annual Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run and Walk. The Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run and Walk will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 starting at 7:30 am at the Wellington Amphitheater. The address to the Amphitheater is 12100 Forest Hill Blvd. Wellington, FL 33414. Day of Registration starts at 6:00 am with a 7:00 am warm up demonstrated by Ultima Fitness.
The event brings residents together to promote health and fitness, while supporting a charitable organization. In conjunction with the Palms West Community Foundation, a portion of the proceeds from the 2013 event will benefit the “Jerms” McGraw Second Chance Scholarship at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
In memory of U.S. Marine Corps. 2nd Lt. Jeremiah McGraw ’09 ORM, the Palm Beach Atlantic University Alumni Association offers the Jerms McGraw Second Chance Scholarship.
Known by his nickname “Jerms,” Lt. McGraw was a student in the MacArthur School of Leadership at PBA, while serving as a Marine reservist, part of the 4th ANGLICO unit in West Palm Beach. Lt. McGraw died on Sept. 10, 2009 during a training exercise in Central Florida while serving his country. He was 22.
Just prior to his death, Lt. McGraw earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from PBA.
“Jerms was known for his willingness to help anyone, anytime, anywhere,” said his father, Tim McGraw.
“In keeping with his heart, we are directing that this scholarship be awarded to students who are dealing with significant setbacks in their lives and are in need of a helping hand to make a fresh start — in other words, students who need a second chance.”
Following the race, we will have an awards ceremony along with food and drinks.
