Funding creates expansion of affordable, quality health care to Palm Beach County
(West Palm Beach, FL) October 15, 2014 — FoundCare, Inc., is celebrating five years in the community providing access to high quality, patient-centered healthcare in Palm Beach County. As a newly designated, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), FoundCare has joined a national movement of over 1000 health centers in this initiative. There are only five FQHC’s in Palm BeachCounty.
FoundCare, which opened its health center in 2009, is now positioned to respond to the health care needs of the entire county. FoundCare uses a sliding fee scale based on income to assess patient charges. It also accepts Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and self-pay. FoundCare is in the process of expanding services by hiring additional medical and dental professionals, enabling them to integrate more patient services including behavioral health and adult dentistry.
“The FQHC designation is great news, as it allows us to better serve the most vulnerable in our community – the uninsured and medically needy,” said Yolette Bonnet, Chief Executive Officer, FoundCare, Inc. “A person’s income shouldn’t determine their ability to receive quality healthcare.”
In 2013, FoundCare’s health center served 4,531 patients, up from 2,801 in 2012, with over 12,000 patient visits. Among those patients, 74% were living with income below federal poverty level and 34% were pediatric patients. Of those patients treated, 67% were uninsured, 25% were on Medicaid, 4% paid with private insurance, 2% were on Medicare, 2% used other public insurance.
“The healthcare landscape is changing dramatically,” said Dr. Katina Bonaparte, Medical Director of FoundCare’s HealthCenter. “We are responding to the need of the larger community for quality, comprehensive medical care for men, women and children.”
FoundCare’s HealthCenter offer pediatrics, family practice, chronic disease management, laboratory work, x-rays and dentistry. The Center hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 am – 5 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 11 am – 7 pm and Saturday 8 am – noon.
