NCJW’S SIXTH KIDS COMMUNITY CLOSET TO OPEN IN ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
CLOSET TO MEET STUDENTS’ IN-SCHOOL EMERGENCY NEEDS
(West Palm Beach, FL) Palm Beach Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) will have a grand opening of its sixth Kids Community Closet on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 9 AM at the Roosevelt Elementary School, 1220 15th Street, West Palm Beach.
Kids Community Closet, a community service project of the Palm Beach Section of the National Council of Jewish Women, is a secured closet inside selected elementary schools to meet the needs of students on an emergency basis. (Schools are selected based on the percentage of enrolled students receiving free or reduced lunch.)
The project is designed to provide new clothing, school supplies and personal care items at no cost to the students in need. Items are distributed by teachers, counselors and school nurses as they see the need arise, whether due to in-school accidents, condition of clothing or growth spurts.
The goal of Kids Community Closet is to keep kids in school by providing them with basic school necessities so they can concentrate on learning and enjoy the self esteem that comes from looking good and being properly dressed.
Attending this Grand Opening will be West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio and City Commissioners Sylvia Moffett and Shanon Materio; other elected officials are expected. Also attending will be Sheila Mains, CEO and founder of Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle LLC, who has made a generous contribution to help underwrite the operation of this closet.
The National Council of Jewish Women is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive deals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
