Events Happening at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium
About the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium:
The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, recently named the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ nonprofit of the year, features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit. All exhibits will be on display during Afterlife’s special showing.

Monday – Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Afterlife: Tombs & Treasures of Ancient Egypt
October 11, 2014 – April 18, 2014
Mark your calendars for, Afterlife, the newest exhibit opening at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium! Afterlife: Tombs and Treasures of Ancient Egypt explores the elaborate preparations that ancient Egyptians made for the afterlife and features never-before-seen artifacts on display for the first time in North America! Highlights of this exhibit include fine jewelry, painted reliefs, implements used in religious rituals, a sarcophagus, coffins and an ancient painted model of the royal barge. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a full-scale reproduction of the burial chamber of Thutmose III (1490-1436 B.C.), a Rammeside male mummy believed to be the son of Ramses II and several other mummies!

GEMS (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) Club

While having tons of fun along the way, our new GEMS club offers the perfect opportunity for young girls to learn and grow as they discover the exciting world of math, science, engineering and technology! GEMS Club takes place on the last Tuesday of every month from 5pm-7pm. Dinner and refreshments will be provided. This is a free program for all girls in grades 3-8 and registration is required. Spooky Science Nights at the Museum

Science is scary fun! Spooky science secrets, oozing pumpkins, smoking bubbles, creepy crawlers and much more await all boils and ghouls during Spooky Science Nights at the Museum. There will be plenty of treats along with a few tricks during this fun-filled event for all ages. Expect the unexpected as you dare to stroll our Spooky Science Trail, Haunted Hall of Exploration and treat yourself to tons of sweets! On the last Friday night of each month from 6-9 PM, guests of all ages can enjoy extended hours of exploration at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium. Each Night at the Museum is a different theme, which includes various interactive science crafts, activities, entertainment, exhibits, planetarium shows and a chance to view the night sky in Palm Beach County’s only public observatory! Dress up to match the theme for a special prize! Admission is $14.50 for adults $13 for seniors, $11 for children ages 3-12 and $6 for member adults. Hack Shack Tech Club at the Science Center

This new club gives kids the opportunity to explore science and technology in a whole new way as we experiment with computer programming and even design our very own video games! Laser Concerts

Taking place on the second Wednesday of every month from 2-5pm guests 62 and older can enjoy an afternoon at the South Florida Science Center. Learn from guest presenters on various topics, view a planetarium show and interact with over 50 educational exhibits. Science on Tap: GMO’s Exposed

What are GMOs? GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” have become a hot topic today and the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is ready to provide some food for thought on the subject with the help of registered dietician and nutritionist, Michelle Parenti Lewis. Michelle earned her bachelor in Dietetics & Nutrition from Florida International University and her Master of Science in Human Environmental Science with a major in Human Nutrition from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Pack your shovel for an archeological adventure as the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium hosts Sci-Fi Cinema! Guests are invited to enjoy an outdoor movie experience on a colossal screen and are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. The featured film will be Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children ages 3-12. Admission includes full access to Science Center exhibits.
