Hi-Tech Plumbing…Your One-Stop Shop

By Krista Martinelli

When it comes to plumbing, Hi-Tech is definitely a one-stop shop! Some of their special areas of certification have come about, thanks to the requests of their clients. From tankless water heaters to regular plumbing, they can cover it all!  Hi-Tech Plumbing is “backflow certified” – (annual inspection required by Utility Department for Commercial business & some Residential homes with pools, gas-licensed (able to install gas generators, gas lines & appliances), able to do septic tank pumping & drain field replacements for residential properties and grease-traps for restaurants.

pipes“We call ourselves a boutique in plumbing because we cater to our clients every need’, whether complex or a simple service call.  Every project is overviewed by a supervisor and always treated with an immediate follow up call,” says Jathynia Garcia, who owns and operates the company with her husband Abiel. In addition to excellence in plumbing, they aim for building long-lasting business relationships that set them apart from the rest of the industry.

They’re known for sending personalized greeting cards plus gift cards, coffee, chocolates and other special, personalized gifts like a “#1 Mom” frame. “We like to spoil our clients,” says Garcia. They truly get to know and appreciate their customers. Of course, they send referral gifts to their customers too.

easywaterSome of their latest popular products include “Easy Water,” a water-conditioning service that requires no salt no maintenance and replaces the bulky water softener tank  which requires monthly maintenance. The device measures 1.5 ft. x 1.5 ft and is compact, so you can mount it on the wall.  It works with your standard filter system. It conditions the water, maintains the lines and helps protect the household appliances to last longer.

Hi-Tech also provides water filters that require just once a year maintenance. They’re also proud to offer the tankless water heater. As of recently, government rebates have made this upgrade a popular one, paying back 30% of the cost (which can be as much as $1500.00).  Another great way to upgrade right now is to make the move to the solar water heater, which has a 30% rebate with no cap.  With a solar water heater, you can save hundreds on your electric bill.  It makes a lot of sense, especially Florida!

Jathy Garcia also writes a column called “Living Green” for AroundWellington.com, alternating with writer Christine Smith. When asked about the benefits of “going green,” Garcia says that the biggest benefit is for the planet itself…for our future generations. “It’s ridiculous when you see the amount of waste and contamination going around,” she adds.  According to Garcia, there are many easy ways to be energy-efficient. For example, checking the toilets & changing out an old flapper in a toilet can save gallons of water each year & put money in the consumers pocket. Changing to an energy efficient toilet will cut back on your water consumption (from approximately two gallons per flush to 1.3 gallons per flush).  Garcia believes it’s time to be “cleaner, greener and more sustainable.”

Here are some of the many services Hi-Tech Plumbing offers . . .

  • Bathtub / shower valves
  • Drain cleaning
  • Dishwashers
  • Dryers
  • Faucets
  • Garbage disposals
  • Gas range / oven
  • Hydro-Jetting
  • Ice makers
  • Laundry tubs
  • Leak detection
  • Low water pressure
  • Pipes / fittings / valves
  • Rooter Service
  • Sewer line replacement
  • Shut-off valves
  • Sinks
  • Sump pumps
  • Toilets
  • TV/Video camera inspections
  • Water heaters
  • Water purification systems
  • Water softening systems
  • Well Pumps
  • And much more!

As they see it, drain cleaning is just the beginning of their services. They do kitchen and bathroom remodels (able to coordinate everything from drywall to the final coat of paint). Sometimes their clients just ask for contacts, but other times they ask for Hi-Tech to coordinate every part of the project. “It makes sense,” explains Garcia, “because often the plumbing is the biggest part of the remodel.”

Speaking of “Hi-Tech,” their TV/Video camera inspections can be very helpful. Hi-Tech Plumbing can send a camera down the clogged line, in order to find the problem. “This way you don’t have to be breaking up walls to find the problem,” says Garcia.

Hi-Tech Plumbing...to the rescue!
Hi-Tech Plumbing...to the rescue!

This June Hi-Tech will celebrate their tenth anniversary in Palm Beach County. Hi-Tech began as a smaller sole operation when Abiel Garcia started it up with a small office in the garage. Today they are happy to have a 2000 square foot office / warehouse with six service trucks (five for residential service and one for septic).

“We still have a family feel, but we’ve grown slightly to meet our customers needs & demands. We are blessed with wonderful staff that makes it all possible & believe in complete customer satisfaction as we do!”Commercial truck

Garcia cautions against a troubling trend that she sees happening during these trying economic times. People, more than ever before, are attempting to fix things themselves. Sometimes they can make costly mistakes, causing an “end of the day” phone call for an emergency plumbing job. While there have been amazing technological advances in the field of plumbing, “people sometimes try to do things ‘old school,’” says Garcia. They don’t always know what’s energy-efficient and what’s available or appropriate and in the long run, the consumer ends up spending more money then having a real professional do it.

By the way, Jathy and Abiel Garcia have worked one aspect of their family into their marketing scheme. Their Hi-Tech trucks, their business cards and their website all feature an adorable little boy plumber wearing overalls. This is Andy Garcia, their son, who is now five years old. If all goes as planned, Andy will be the “second generation” owner of the family business. He seems to take quite a strong interest in tools and fixing things…so far, so good!

What do Hi-Tech Plumbing clients appreciate most? “The fact that we do what we promise.” says Garcia. They also give a 30-minute notification call when a service technician is on the way. Hi-Tech offers a complimentary plumbing inspection, up-front pricing, 100-day repair warranties (most companies stop at 30) and same-day service. As good way of following up, Hi-Tech sends a “thank you” letter with a coupon, asking for a testimonial approximately a week after each job is completed. On Hi-Tech’s website, you can find many positive Testimonials like this one.

“You know, it’s not so easy to find a service company who’s on time, pleasant, fair, and good at their job. You’re ‘all of the above’ and I truly appreciate it.” – Lois Kaplowitz in Boynton Beach, FL.

Williams to Lead The King’s Academy Track Team to State Finals

WEST PALM BEACH – Tuesday, April 27th – The King’s Academy’s Track Team “electrified” the FHSAA Class 1A regional meet held Thursday in Miami, as Ian Williams led them to a third place finish in the men’s division, only nine points short of the winning team’s total.

Williams was regional champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and joined Brian Grove, Ricky Roy, Connor Price, and Trace Batten (alternate) in winning the 4 x 100 meter relay.  He also qualified for a fourth event at states with a school record performance in the long jump.  Jamaal Wallace also had a strong performance at the meet, finishing as regional champion in the discus and also qualified for states with a second place finish in the shot put.  Scott Simpson qualified for the state meet in the 3200-meter run.

For the Lady Lions, two relay teams led the way at the regional.  Julia Corley, Ashley Pisciottano, Samantha Gaffney, Gilda Doria, and Shauna Dowling (alternate) in the 4 x 800 relay and Brooke Garmon, Payton Campbell, Emily Cohen, Emily Stetzer, and Samantha Gaffney (alternate) in the 4 x 400 meter relay were state qualifiers.  Kimmy Ruch (100 meters), Stetzer (400 meters), and Doria (800 meters) also advanced to the state finals in individual events.

The King’s Academy is a nationally recognized private Christian school serving approximately 1,200 students from preschool through twelfth grade and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Association of Christian Schools International, and the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. The King’s Academy serves students and their families across Palm Beach and Hendry Counties at its main campus at Belvedere Road and Sansbury’s Way in West Palm Beach, its Clewiston campus on Caribbean Avenue, and its satellite preschool campuses in Greenacres, Palm Beach Gardens, and Royal Palm Beach.  More information about The King’s Academy is available online at www.TKA.net.

Florida equestrians lead Virginia Intermont College to the 2010 Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championship

College Sports

April 25, 2010

Lead by three riders from Florida, Virginia Intermont College located in Bristol, VA won the 2010 Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championship Saturday April 23rd making it Virginia Intermont’s third national championship in 5 years.  This year’s championship was hosted by St Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC.  Elizabeth Mirson a sophomore from Wellington FL, Gigi Good a junior from Boca Raton FL, and Claire Almon a junior from Longwood, FL each finished second out of twelve competitors in their respective divisions accumulating sufficient points of which the other schools could not overcome.  Elizabeth Mirson was the only returning rider from last year’s team that returned home as the 2009 reserve national champion.  Liz was determined to return and finish what she started. The University of Florida finished second and Virginia Tech place third.

All three Floridians were the individual regional champions in their respective divisions.  Chelsea Dressler, a senior from Covington VA, the fourth member of team, finished fourth in her division.

The IDA was formed in 2001 and now has a membership of 55 colleges and more than 600 individual riders.  Intercollegiate dressage competitions have a unique format in that the rules require each rider to randomly draw a horse from a pool of horses selected for each division. The rider then has ten minutes to get acquainted with their mount before entering the ring.

The college bound invitational held in Newberry, Fl each year appears to be the common thread that first attracted these riders to VIC.  Coaches Eddie Federwisch and Lisa Moosmuller focused their attention on recruiting some of this nation’s most promising young riders many years ago via the college bound invitational and it has clearly payoff for them.
