The King’s Academy’s Elementary Experiences ‘The Truth Project’

 

WEST PALM BEACH – Monday, January 25, 2010 – Each semester at The King’s Academy the elementary students benefit from attending a series of chapel services known as Spiritual Emphasis Week. This semester’s series took place last week and was called “The Truth Project.” The theme was based on the Bible verse in 3rd John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

The first day they learned that telling the truth is not always easy, but it is a daily choice that they need to make.  They learned that each day they should try to be more and more like Christ. So, they need to know what the Bible says about truth.  One example is found in Proverbs 12:22, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”  So the children learned that when they choose to tell the truth, God delights in that decision.

The second day they learned how history relates to truth.  They learned about the story of Pocahontas.  They talked about the differences between the movie, a textbook, and a history book versions of the story.  They saw some similarities, and some differences.  They learned that they needed to examine the things that they read and what they see, because authors take privileges and sometimes stories are distorted.  Whenever they can, they need to check their thoughts with the Word of God.

In the last chapel they learned how they see God in science.  They can see God through creation.  He has designed the world, and it says in Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork.” They experienced some great experiments and the final one was so messy that it had to be done outside.

The New Year . . . One Big “Do-Over!”

A new year; a clean slate. I’d like to think of 2010 as one big “do-over.”  It would afford me a chance to get the things right that have eluded me.  For example; this muffin-top which resides on my belt-line needs some reforming. I’ve tried to remember to drink my water and plan for nutritious snacks.  Rather than feel like I didn’t make the mark, I’m thinking, here’s my chance.  I’ve bought nice stainless steel water bottles for everyone in the family so I won’t have to share my water. By using the refillable water bottles it will hopefully be my redemption for all the plastic bottles I’ve used. To add to the rewards, I won’t be drinking water laced with BPA, or any other harmful chemical component. As for snacking, my list for the store is made from hints from watching the Biggest Loser all last year. I’m heading out New Year’s Day to arm my pantry with fruits and veggies. Sorry kids, no Goldfish crackers! I know, it’s a long shot. I’m hopeful after dragging the kids through the store that we will make it out with yogurt and baby carrots.  No cookie from the bakery.   Let’s hope my strength holds out.

The past year was all about save, save and be frugal. We needed to be careful living on a break-even basis.  But, what enjoyment did I get out of that?  I’m telling you, it’s Disney this year or bust.  It’s an uphill climb since money to my spouse is like bark on a tree.  I just may have to go with a kid at a time or do a lot of the “Work a Day, Get a Day” of Disney’s 2010 free admission program. (Oops, it looks like it’s just good for one day per person). But, we need some well-deserved, piggybank–raiding fun.

A friend of my son generated a desire to develop more social connections of my own.  This boy’s mom invited all the moms that she knows to meet next week at The Cheesecake Factory to have our own “play date.”  I can’t wait!  When was the last time I got to get dressed up and go out without the kids in tow?  It got me thinking I need to get out more, even if it means reaching out in desperation. I’ve emailed and sent Christmas cards to people I haven’t been in touch with for years. I sent one friend a Gingerbread Boy that my son had colored. She is narrating Ginger boy’s adventures as part of her own adventures. What a fun way to tell your friends what you’re doing by telling it through the eyes of a cardboard Gingerbread boy. I can’t wait to hear what she, er, Ginger boy, is doing. I have to strike out on my own since my spouse is a hermit and has no desire to do anything that doesn’t involve a computer keyboard. A few neighbors have accommodated my chats.

In a symbolic gesture of tossing out the old, I ceremoniously threw out a beloved pair of slippers held together with duct tape. A few other things went out as well. A word went out that a family in a nearby town had lost everything in a fire; I packed the entire back of my car with anything that was duplicate or unneeded item. The kids got into the spirit of it by donating toys they’d outgrown. I was amazed to see them fill the boxes with what I thought to be their most cherished possessions. To further insure my commitment to reduce my backside, gave up the “fat clothes”; there is no turning back. It was all worth it when we delivered the belongings to a run-down apartment building and grateful new owners. To have the extra space is refreshing. Until all the Christmas decorations come down, it hardly seems as though we made a dent. Yet, that’s exactly what we’ll do. The decorations are on the way into storage and we’ll head off to do-over the coming year. Happy New Year to you!

Wellington Women’s Club Monthly Meeting on Feb. 4th

The Wellington Women’s Club invites you to attend its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Februray 4, 6:30 p.m., at Binks Forest Golf Club, 400 Binks Forest Drive, Wellington. 

In addition to a buffet dinner, members and guests will enjoy a presentation by Paulette Bragel, manager of Hoffman’s Chocolates in the Shoppes at Wellington Green.  She may be bringing samples!  Plan to bring a friend or two for what will be a fun and tasty evening.

Half-year memberships in the WWC are available beginning in February at a cost of $130 and include dinner at the remaining four meetings of the year and a discount to the May fundraising event.

5 Basic Principles of Reiki

 

With Valentine’s Day upon us I feel compelled to talk about LOVE. Love is a sensitive and risky subject matter with many varying definitions and interpretations. We all know that we have degrees of “romantic love”, including, but not limited to, our crushes, our infatuations, our heart-throbs, and our soul mates, which are very different from the “platonic love” we feel for our friends, families, pets and sometimes inanimate objects. (i.e. I love my flat iron.)  However, I want to talk about “spiritual love”; the kind of love that is at the center of a Divine Universal Life energy; the kind of love that is boundless and connects each living thing to one another; the kind of love that is the foundation for all healing; the kind of love that each one of us is capable of and entitled to. Spiritual love is an unlimited, unconditional, untainted, ever-flowing energy that comes straight from the Divine. Regardless of what religion you may practice, spiritual love is within your core reassuring that you are never truly alone.

 

A good example or instrument of spiritual love is the Japanese healing practice of Reiki.  Reiki is a holistic restorative technique using spiritually guided life energy whereby the “Rei” or God-Consciousness guides the “Ki” or life energy through the body. Reiki is not a religion in itself. It does not preach and it works whether you believe in it or not. However, because it is grounded in the principle of Divine love, it enables many people to experience their religion, love of God, self-love and love of others much more profoundly. Reiki focuses on expanding Love, helping one to understand the true meaning of unconditional love and increasing and spreading the vibration of Love to all. Routinely reciting and adhering to the five Reiki principles above is a way for you to start increasing and spreading your love vibrations.

 

So as we approach February 14th, a day some can’t wait for as well as a day that some can’t wait to forget; a day when those who are attached can celebrate and those who are longing to be attached may shed a tear; a day marked by chocolates, flowers, and sentimental cards; a day we can’t help but think about the loves we have and perhaps the loves we’ve lost, I encourage you to examine the different loves in your lives and then ask the questions, “How can I give more love? How can I receive more love?  How can I be more loving?  How can I be more loveable?” 

 

Keep in mind the aforementioned concept of Spiritual Love as you read the following affirmation, written by Louise Hay in You Can Heal Your Life.

 

Deep at the center of my being, there is an infinite well of love. 

I now allow this love to flow to the surface.  It fills my heart, my body, my mind my consciousness, my very being, and radiates out from me in all directions and returns to me multiplied.

The more love I use and give, the more I have to give.

The supply is endless.

The use of love makes me feel good; it is an expression of my inner joy.

I love myself; therefore, I behave and think in a loving way to all people for I know that which I give out returns to me multiplied. 

I only attract loving people in my world, for they are a mirror of what I am.

I love myself; therefore, I forgive and totally release the past and all past experiences, and I am free.

 I love myself; therefore, I live tot tally in the now, experiencing each moment as good and knowing that my future is bright and joyous and secure, for I am a beloved child of the Universe, and the Universe lovingly takes care of me now and forever.

 All is well in my world.

 

 

There you have it. An almost surefire guarantee for tapping into the Spiritual Universal Love. I’m certain that after reading this article your heart chakra will expand and your heart light will burn brighter. If you study these words, live by these principles, you can’t help but feel differently.  When you acknowledge your spiritual love connections and truly believe that you are one with Divine Love not only will you strengthen your current relationships, but also you will notice how new experiences and opportunities will arise and manifestations of your desires are inevitable.

Let your friends colleagues know that PanZOu is accepting donations to help with the Haitian relief efforts. Each donation of $20 will receive a Hearts for Haiti t-shirt. Half the donation goes to Haiti and the other supports PanZOu’s programs with high risk Haitian youth here.  Please direct them to our website: www.panzouproject.org. There they may donate $20 for a shirt, on choose any other amount to donate directly to Haiti.

Our PanZOu kids worked hard over the weekend to get these shirts printed and they look great!

Komen Calls Out for Cheerleaders to Volunteer at Upcoming Race

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., (Jan. 12, 2010) – As the 19th Annual Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure® approaches— taking place on the morning of January 30 along Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach— the non–profit organization is seeking middle, high school and college cheerleaders who will volunteer to cheer on the runners, walkers participants and survivors as part of the I AM THE CURE.® program. 

 

I AM THE CURE.® is a breast health program from the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that teaches people simple steps they need to know to take charge of their breast health.  It speaks to the importance of early detection and provides simple, action-oriented chants that Race participants can take home and put into action.  These chants, and the simple steps that lead to early detection, will come to life as more than 23,000 Komen South Florida Race for the Cure participants make I AM THE CURE.® their rallying cry on Race day.

 

All official volunteer cheerleaders will receive a signed form documenting volunteer service hours for school or work.
