(West Palm Beach, FL – June 8, 2023) Rochelle Wolberg, Curator-Director at Mounts Botanical Garden, is bursting with pride since Palm Beach County’s oldest and largest botanical garden was awarded this year’s prestigious Dorothy E. Hansell Marketing Award from the American Public Gardens Association, the nation’s leading professional organization for the field of public horticulture.

The annual award “recognizes outstanding marketing and communications that advance a public garden’s mission.” Mounts Botanical Garden was honored for The Palm Beaches in Bloom, a week-long wow-worthy tropical botanical art installation last December at Hudson Yards in New York City.

“The Palm Beaches were certainly in bloom and Mounts Botanical Garden was proud to be an integral part of this dynamic tourism activation event, along with Discover the Palm Beaches and the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County,” says Wolberg. “We invited celebrated floral installation artist Lisa Waud to create a living botanical artistic display that highlighted and captured the essence of the outdoors and art experiences one may experience when visiting Palm Beach County. The environmentally friendly installation was inspired by the lifeguard towers that dot our beaches and featured over 1,300 orchids, tropical plants, and perennial vines, several of which were taken directly from the Garden’s collection.”

Mounts Botanical Garden’s Curator-Director Rochelle Wolberg, Associate Director of Marketing & Communications Misty Stoller, and Board Member Paton White accepted the 2023 Dorothy E. Hansell Marketing Award this week at APGA’s annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas. Previous winners of this award include the Philadelphia Flower Show (2022), San Francisco Botanical Gardens (2021), and both Naples Botanical Garden and Missouri Botanical Garden in 2020.

Kodak Black Partners with Local Car Dealership to Surprise a Recent Graduate

(L-R above) Francky Pierre-Paul, Philanthropic Consultant, Kodak Black, Stichiz, founder of Tu Es Belle Readers, Omar Cordero, and Mike Pennachio, Managing Partner of Greenacres Nissan

Nationally recognized artist Kodak Black announced he teamed up with Greenacres Nissan to gift a recent graduate a free car ahead of Kodak Black Day: Car Show Edition during a recent press conference.

Kodak Black is no stranger to philanthropic gestures. The young rapper has a documented history of assisting families of fallen officers, donating $100,000 to Nova Southeastern University, financially contributing towards Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, and partaking in grassroots initiatives like going door to door donating air conditioners and food to those in need.

Now, he hopes that gifting a car to a deserving high school graduate from an underserved community will change the direction of a student’s life and college endeavors.

“The student is driven. He’s ambitious. He has goals. The car is going to help him get to his destiny faster,” said Kodak.

Although Kodak Black and the team have already chosen the student via Tu Es Bella, an organization founded by media personality and philanthropist Stichiz that supports high school students transitioning to college, the recipient is still unaware. They will find out during the Kodak Black Day: Car Show Edition event on Sunday.

“The student thinks they won tickets to come to Kodak Black Day, but when they get there, they’ll find out. The car will be ready with a bow,” said Francky Pierre-Paul, who supports many of Kodak Black’s charitable campaigns.

The donated Nissan won’t be the only decorated car at the event.

Kodak Black Day: Car Show Edition is being held in Pompano this Sunday, June 11,  from 12p-6p at Pompano Community Park and will showcase 100 of the hottest cars and bikes from across the nation competing to win a cash prize. The second annual event will have live music, food, a Kid Zone, and vendors. Tickets are still on sale at www.kodakblackday.com

West Palm Beach GreenMarket Receives Third Nomination for “Best Farmers Market”

In honor of recognition, the City to host three pop-up mini-markets at Clematis by Night in June

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The West Palm Beach Green Market has again been nominated as a USA TODAY 10 Best “Best Farmers Market”. The publication’s Readers’ Choice poll is a nationwide contest to determine the 10 best markets in the country. The City of West Palm Beach’s market has taken the top prize for the last two consecutive years. Fans and friends of the GreenMarket can vote once daily through Monday, July 3, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

In celebration of the recognition, the City will host three pop-up mini-markets at Clematis by Night in June – Thursday, June 15, 2023, Thursday, June 22, 2023, and Thursday, June 29, 2023. The markets will run from 6 – 9 p.m. during the weekly live music series and include a variety of favorites and new vendors. The participating vendors will be listed on the Clematis by Night webpage.

“The West Palm Beach GreenMarket is the best farmers market in the United States,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “Each year, our market continues to grow and branch out, both in its physical footprint and variety of offerings. Additionally, it capitalizes on the beauty of our waterfront views as it steps away from the Intracoastal. With the help of our community and partners, I am confident that we can win again.”

A USA TODAY 10 Best panel of food and travel experts determined their top 20 farmers markets, and now the public will select the top 10 winners. The final rankings will be announced on July 14, 2023. USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards highlight the best of the best in contests covering categories such as destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do.

“We are excited to be once again nominated as the ‘Best Farmers Market’ in the U.S.,” said Mary Pinak, community events manager for the City of West Palm Beach. “In celebration of this incredible recognition, we are hosting three mini-markets so fans and friends of the GreenMarket can sample what’s to come next season. Be sure to come out each week to see returning favorites and a peek at who’s new for the 2023 – 2024 season.”

The West Palm Beach GreenMarket wrapped its 28th season in April, marking its largest yet with more than 110 vendors. It expanded its physical footprint to the 200 block of Clematis Street to accommodate the growth. The seasonal market’s mission is to provide the community with seasonal access to locally grown fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, plants, and agricultural products. The Market supports the southeast Florida agricultural community and stimulates agricultural development, particularly in Palm Beach County, by providing an outlet for locally grown crops and specialty products. The West Palm Beach GreenMarket has been featured in The Boston Globe and named the number one green market in Florida by Cooking Light magazine.

Southern Blood (Southern Rock) | Visit Website

The Southern Blood Band is a self-described “salute to American southern rock,” as the band covers a wide range of music from artists such as The Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet, The Marshall Tucker Band, Blackfoot, .38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more. With an unmistakable hard-driving groove, signature southern vocals, and dueling guitar force, their performance is a throwback to the ‘70s and early ‘80s.

For “An Evening with Donna Singer and the Diamond Jazz Orchestra Paying Tribute to Count Basie,” Singer said the audience should anticipate a night filled with inspiration, rhythm and above all else, dancing.

Q: What should the audience expect from the evening?

Singer: The music will be songs that Count Basie is well known for. He was a band leader, who inspired so many others, including Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra, as well as a musician, so we will be focusing on his charts. We are paying tribute to the greatness of Count Basie.

Q: Where else have you performed this tribute?

Singer: I’ve been performing for more than 30 years, which includes formal training at The Julliard School. And I’ve been singing with Big Band orchestras since the 1990s in Fort Lauderdale. I decided to form the Diamond Orchestra, hand-picked by me, because I love singing with an orchestra and the ‘surroundness’ of that music. Since we came into being, this will be our sixth or seventh concert.

Q: Will there be anything different about this particular concert?

Singer: We plan to incorporate some instrumentals, arranged by Count Basie. For the first time, we are really going to feature the orchestra. Some songs Basie that arranged, I will be singing.

Q: Why the Spady Museum partnership?

A: We collaborated together at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, then in partnership with Arts Garage, then again via Joan Cartwright, a mutual friend of mine and Museum Director Charlene Farrington. I wanted to do a fundraiser, so we designed this evening. Charlene was right there, loving the idea. We met each other’s energy.
