Exclusive local music and dance performances to take place in the Council’s Main Gallery for the first in-person performing arts series since 2019

June 14, 2022 (Lake Worth Beach, Fla.) — Your arts forecast this summer is hot, hot, hot with the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s Summer Performing Arts Series!

The first in-person series since 2019, the Council will host thrilling evenings of dance and music in July and August at its Lake Worth Beach Main Gallery. “We’re ecstatic to invite locals to the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County for our first in-person Summer Concert Series in three years,” said Dave Lawrence, the Cultural Council’s president and CEO. “Reflecting our mission to nurture the arts locally, the series will feature a fantastic lineup of local artists. This is a wonderful chance to support Palm Beach County’s cultural community and enjoy exhilarating summer evening performances at a unique historic space.”

The performances planned for the Summer Performing Arts Series are as follows:

Saturday, July 2 – Demetrius Klein Dance Company
On the eve of Demetrius Klein’s 60th birthday, Demetrius Klein Dance Company will perform a special retrospective evening with excerpts of works that span from 1986 (when the company was formed) to today. Some of Klein’s most important and award-winning works will be represented, in addition to a new and special work woven throughout the show. It’s not to be missed!

Saturday, July 9 – J.M. and The Sweets

South Florida soul band J.M. and The Sweets is sure to make your summer Saturday just a little bit sweeter! Led by Palm Beach-based singer-songwriter Josh Miles, the band’s music can be described as bluesy at times, relentlessly groovy at others and always soulful. The band’s debut EP, Sol Village, was released in May 2017 through Stank Records.

Saturday, August 6 – Spred the Dub
Longtime local favorite “good time reggae” band Spred the Dub will perform original songs and a tribute to The Clash, the English rock band formed in London in 1976 whose musicians served as key players in the original wave of British punk rock.

Saturday, August 20 – The Lubben Brothers
Acoustic folk favorites The Lubben Brothers return to the Cultural Council to close out its 2022 Summer Performing Arts Series. Comprised of triplets who are each high-energy acoustic musicians, The Lubben Brothers specialize in tight vocal harmonies and an eclectic blend of folk instruments including banjo, mandolin, tin whistle, accordion, hammered dulcimer, and fiddle.

All performances will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Council’s main gallery, located at 601 Lake Avenue in Lake Worth Beach. West Palm Beach Resident Releases Book Celebrating Fatherhood, with Dad’s Lessons on Leadership and Life

0

As he welcomes his first child, United Franchise Group and Signarama President A.J. Titus shares his own father’s wisdom in The List: Lessons from a Father

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (June 16, 2022) – Just as he becomes a dad for the first time, A.J. Titus is also releasing his first book based on fatherhood.  The first-time author recently published the story about lessons he learned from his father and how those fundamental principles shaped his approach to business, leadership, and what he values most. A.J. Titus is President of United Franchise Group™, the global leader for entrepreneurs, and Signarama®, the world’s largest sign and graphics franchise. He and his wife, Laura Titus, had their first child in April.

The List: Lessons from a Father, available on Amazon, passes down 18 lessons from his father, United Franchise Group Founder and CEO Ray Titus, who shared The List of insights as he drove young A.J. to school.

At 145 pages, the book is designed so its lessons can be absorbed and applied quickly and easily, connecting the reader to The List and the reasons why it resonates through generations.

“The goal is to pay it forward,” Titus said. “The 18 lessons are quick but direct on things that help you and things I have reflected on my entire life. The List has motivated me since I can remember, and I decided that if I could write something that could help others, including my daughter, I wanted to do it. I want to give back to her the same way my dad gave back to me.”

A.J. Titus’s father, Ray Titus has served as his son’s role model in both work and life. Besides founding United Franchise Group, he is an accomplished speaker and author with six published books. “The List grew from me sharing important basic principles about life, with my growing family, to now A.J. sharing it with everyone.  He has taken it to a whole new level,” said Ray Titus, “Seeing The List through A.J.’s eyes has opened mine to how these simple lessons enriched our time together.”

The List: Lessons from a Father also includes wisdom from A.J.’s grandfather and United Franchise Group’s former General Manager J.J. Prendamano. A.J. recalled being late for a meeting with his grandfather early in his career. When he arrived, his grandfather wrote “Respect for Time” on a $5 bill and ripped the money in half.

“You will get the other half when you respect others’ time,” his grandfather said. A memorable demonstration for the young leader on how time equals money, the kind of reflection that makes The List, valuable to aspiring leaders and lifelong learners, passed from a father to his son, for parents, coaches, and business mentors. And, if you are wondering, yes, A.J. still has the $5 bill.

Led by Nada Virgili, this session will focus on the many tropical vegetables that thrive in hot temperatures and can provide healthy and delicious greens even through the hottest months of the year. Discover new veggies to enjoy and add new flavors to your dinner plate. We’ll also look at what ornamental species will look great on the patio.

Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches Wins $25,000 Neighborhood Assist Grant

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL. – Thanks to an outpouring of public support, Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches has won a generous 2022 State Farm Neighborhood Assist Grant for its afterschool/summer program, Project Grow.

From April 27-May 6, Project Grow and 199 other organizations rallied online support, with the top 100 vote-getters each receiving a $25,000 grant. Project Grow students and staff posted engaging videos to generate interest in the contest and Adopt-A-Family’s faithful supporters responded with thousands of votes, securing Project Grow a spot among the winners.

“A big thank you to our supporters, who always step up when we need them,” said Matthew Constantine, Adopt-A-Family Chief Executive Officer. “This grant will be an enormous help to Project Grow.”

The State Farm Review Committee selected Project Grow to be among the top 200 finalists from 4,000 organizations nationwide. Project Grow was one of 15 Florida causes to make the Top 200, and the only one in Palm Beach County. Nationwide, 88,000 people cast more than two million votes in support of their favorite causes.

Project Grow is Palm Beach County’s only afterschool/summer program specifically designed to support elementary school students who have experienced poverty and homelessness. The program focuses on academic support, emotional development, parental engagement, and life-enriching experiences. The classroom experience includes tutoring; academic advising; mental health counseling; social-emotional learning; healthy snacks; and outdoor play. The program emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) activities that boost critical thinking, promote self-confidence, and open students’ eyes to future career paths.

Schools out for summer, but ACES interns are in

0
Buck Martinez

With the 2021/2022 school year coming to an end and the official start of summer just weeks away, what are kids doing to stay busy? Enter the age-old internship – an opportunity for students to work for an organization, sometimes without pay, to gain experience. But with Student ACES, a 501c3 organization dedicated to inspiring and developing high school student athletes to become men and women of character, honor and integrity through character education programs, nothing is age-old, after all the organization is just shy of 10 years of age (many would not know as they’ve impacted the lives of more than 50,000 students throughout Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties in that short time).

Peaches and Krissy Web

Now in the third year of the internship program, this year six students ages 16-19 from The Student ACES Center in Belle Glade, commonly referred to as The SAC, will intern with the City of Belle Glade from June 13 – August 31, 2022. Via the partnership, Student ACES executive leadership and members of the City of Belle Glade identified students – more than 20 students applied and completed the interview process.

This paid internship provides students with the unique opportunity to work for the government while learning valuable life lessons and career readiness skills. Even more unique, every Friday interns are required to participate in mandatory leadership training at The SAC.

“The leadership training opportunities serve to reinforce our commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow,” said Buck Martinez, co-founder of Students ACES and president of ACE Leadership Group. “It’s a unique aspect of our internship program that we firmly believe has a huge impact on the lives of these children as they continue to develop.”

Once again, Student ACES is identifying opportunities to reinforce the importance of giving back to the community while also giving back to the students and their future.

“It’s all about opportunity,” recognized Krissy Webb, Executive Director of Student ACES who founded the organization in 2013 with her father, Buck Martinez. “Students at The SAC are willing to work hard and give back and this partnership with the city of Belle Glade provides students invaluable opportunities to learn and grow as they prepare for the next phase of their journey.”

Tajelia Green, now in her third year at FAMU, sees the value in this opportunity for students in the community.  Tajelia (commonly referred to as Peaches) oversaw the internship program working with Student ACES.  Prime example of seizing the opportunity, but first the opportunity needs to be presented and earned. Peaches is a member of the inaugural class of The SAC and has been instrumental in program design, recruitment and student relations.

TJ Moore, Student Aces

“Student ACES changed my life,” said Peaches. “This organization and all of the students and people involved mean so much to me. I’m eager to continue giving back throughout this summer and for years to come.”

TJ Moore, son of Glades Region Superintendent Angela Avery-Moore, thrived in the internship program last year with The City of Belle Glade. TJ is a constant at The SAC – he takes advantage of all that the organization has to offer; he is a role model.

Student ACES is extremely grateful for the partnership with the City of Belle Glade and the support of Robert Rease, Belle Glade City Manager.

Celebrating National Garden Week

0

Every year during the first week of June, Wellington Garden Club (WGC) joins with garden clubs across the country to celebrate National Garden Week, a project of National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC).

This year, WGC members began National Garden Week by creating floral arrangements that were distributed to Wellington’s municipal offices, library and local businesses. WGC members are shown in the attached photos creating arrangements and distributing them to the recipients. The club also received a proclamation from the Wellington Village Council and Mayor Anne Gerwig declaring the week of June 5-11, 2022 as National Garden Week.
