Leadership Palm Beach County Announces 2024 Holiday Breakfast

Gift Drive to Benefit Three Local Charities and Food Drive for Feed the Hungry Pantry of Palm Beach County

(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) November 1, 2024 – Leadership Palm Beach County’s annual Holiday Breakfast, presented by Boca Raton Bowl, will take place on the morning of Friday, December 6, at the Marriott in West Palm Beach.

Spearheading the planning of this year’s Holiday Breakfast are event Co-Chairs Brian Elkins, Director of Events, Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce, and Bonni Funt, Director of Business Development/Marketing at TSF Geo, both graduates of the Class of 2022 Leadership PBC Engage Program. Event Co-Chair Bonni Funt shared her enthusiasm for leading the committee for this special event, saying, “Brian and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the Holiday Breakfast with the community as we continue the Leadership Palm Beach County tradition of gathering gifts for our local nonprofits.” 

Leadership PBC’s Annual Holiday Breakfast serves many purposes each year. Most importantly, the Holiday Breakfast celebrates the season of giving. Event guests are encouraged to bring toys and gift cards to donate to the gift drive at the event. This gift drive benefits three local charities, each representing different age groups (Children ages 0-12, Teens/Young Adults ages 13-21, and Adults/Seniors ages 22+.) There will also be a food drive to benefit Feed the Hungry Pantry of Palm Beach County. Leadership PBC’s annual Holiday Breakfast is an opportunity for alumni and community members to convene and celebrate the holiday season. The event features many fun holiday elements including a silent auction and an update on the state of Leadership PBC.

15th Annual YMCA of the Palm Beaches Prayer Breakfast Features PGA TOUR Champion Rickie Fowler as Keynote Speaker

Palm Beach, FL (Oct. 22, 2024) – The YMCA of the Palm Beaches will host its 15 th Annual Prayer
Breakfast on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8:00 a.m. at The Breakers Palm Beach. Professional golfer Rickie
Fowler, PGA TOUR Champion and Olympian, will present the keynote address.
Fowler has recorded 10 professional victories, was ranked number one amateur for 36 weeks in 2007
and 2008, and reached a career high 4 th in the World Golf Rankings following his win at the Abu Dhabi
HSBC Golf Championship. Beyond his golfing achievements, Fowler, a resident of Jupiter, FL, is known
for his philanthropic endeavors and commitment to giving back to his community.
A pre-event VIP Meet and Greet is $500 per person and General Seating is $250 per person. Event

South Florida Fair announces 2025 theme along with ticket and gold pass savings promotion

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2024) – “Imagine the Future” — that’s the theme of the 2025 South Florida Fair, which will be held January 17-February 2, 2025, at the fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd. Fairgoers will be invited to explore 15 themed interactive exhibits presented by Imagine Exhibitions showing how the ideas and concepts of science fiction could soon become the reality of tomorrow. Guests will have the opportunity to discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, math, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and more.
 
Of course, the Fair also will feature its usual attractions, including fried foods, livestock, agriculture, entertainment and rides. For those who enjoy the rides, from November 8-11, the South Florida Fair will offer a Gold Access Pass Flash Sale. For four days only, guests can purchase an Advance Ride Voucher and a Gold Access Pass — a combined value of up to $65 — for only $28. The promotion is online only at www.southfloridafair.com/powerofgold.
 
Gold Access allows pass holders to move to the front of the ride lines on any one day of the fair. The normal cost of the Gold Access Pass at the gate is $12 Monday-Thursday and $20 Friday, Saturday, Sunday and MLK Day, so the savings are considerable.
 
The Advance Ride Voucher can be redeemed for one Ride Wristband any one day of the Fair or 30 ride credits any day. Once the Power of Gold Flash Sale ends, ride vouchers will continue to sell for $25 in advance at Publix and online. Once the fair opens, the price is $35 Monday-Friday and $45 Saturday and Sunday at the gate.
 
Advance admission tickets also will be available for purchase for $10 at Publix and online until January 16 at midnight. For those who use an advance discount admission ticket on opening day, January 17, they can keep the ticket and come back another day, courtesy of Publix. Once the Fair opens on January 17, admission tickets are $15 for 11 years and older Monday-Friday, and $20 on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for children 10 and younger.

(West Palm Beach, FL – October 29, 2024) Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will be hosting 26 different horticultural classes and healthy activities, including two extraordinary special attractions: the annual Plant-a-Palooza Fall Plant Sale and the Grand Opening of Ribbit the Exhibit II & Family Day.

“Celebrating the autumnal season in all of its verdant glory, we continue to offer exciting and elevated programming of both new and traditional events at our beautiful 20-acre oasis, located just minutes from downtown West Palm Beach,” invites Mounts Interim Director Misty Stoller. “The cooler days of November are also the perfect time to check out all our new family of seven awesome life-sized metal animal statuary, including three giraffes, two elephants, and both a hippo and a lion.”

November also marks the beginning of Mounts Botanical Garden’s extended hours. Starting November 1, 2024, and running through May 2025, the Garden is open to the Public Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm (with last entry at 3 pm). Admission is $20 for adults; $18 for seniors, college students and military with IDs; $13 for ages 6 to 17; and free for children under age 6, Mounts members, and RAP (reciprocal program) members.

Forest Bathing: Nature Therapy Immersion and Tea Ceremony

Forest Bathing, also known as “Nature Therapy,” is an immersive experience in nature that gives you an opportunity to reset your outlook on life and have an encounter with the nature in a way that you have never experienced before. It is a sensory practice that takes you away from your phone, computer, and social media and back to what your body yearns for…..a connection with nature.  A sense of peace. A sense of relaxation. A sense of being in the present moment. It provides the perfect time to become a human “be” ing instead of a human “do” ing! During a Forest Bathing experience, you will be invited to slow down and reconnect with nature’s perfect balance using your senses to see the sunlight playing through the leaves, smell the flowers, and feel and hear the gentle wind whispering to you to return to your native roots and discover your deeper self. Your nature encounter concludes with a tea ceremony to connect with other like-minded nature lovers. Forest Bathing has been scientifically proven to boost immune strength, lift depression, reduce stress, and improve sleep. But beyond these physiological changes, this contemplative experience will show you how important it is for your well-being to take time in nature daily!

Tai Chi at Mounts Botanical Gardens  (2 Classes)

  • Class 1: Tai Chi Intermediate Class

9:15 am to 10:10 am

This class is for those who have learned the basic Sun Style Tai Chi Forms and wish to pursue advanced Sun Style Forms. Lessons will be multi-faceted, addressing not only the external execution of the Forms, but more importantly, deepening the internal dimensions of the Forms, such as: magnifying the Qi (Life Energy) and incorporating the Internal Principles of Tai Chi: Song (loosening), Jing (mental quietude), Chen (sinking of dan-tien), and Huo (agility) which are vital to one’s well-being and healing.

In addition, we will explore another Tai Chi Form, the Yang Style.

Note: Wear sneakers or closed comfortable shoes and a loose top and pants. Please bring a towel and water.

  • Class 2: Tai Chi Beginner Class

10:15 am to 11:15 am

This class is designed for those new to Tai Chi or those curious about Tai Chi. You will learn basic Tai Chi principles and moves, called Forms. The primary goal is to improve your overall health and well-being, the use of mindfulness and balance through the Forms are thought to open the doors to Health and Serenity. Tai Chi is excellent for those who want a gentle, but effective exercise.

This dog-and-family-friendly monthly event is held throughout the Garden. Bring your favorite pooch and enjoy a relaxed garden stroll. There are many great spots to capture family photos for posting online with #mountsbotanicalgarden.

+ No more than one dog per adult will be admitted.

Awakening Hearts: A Cacao Ceremony & Sound Immersion Experience

Upon arrival, participants will receive a ceremonial smudging and blessing, helping to release any burdens from their day-to-day life. Then they will be given a cup of the highest quality, Ceremonial Cacao to participate in our sacred heart-opening Cacao Ceremony. The Cacao works to relax you, open your heart chakra, and help you to be receptive to the healing you will experience. Finally, you’ll relax into Yoga Nidra meditation and deep sound healing. You will be immersed in the healing energies of the gong, crystal singing bowls, and other high-frequency instruments.

Come be inspired in the Herb Garden of Well-Being and explore the healing power of sound and intention amidst the transformative ambiance of our Full Moon Flower Release Ceremony. This serene gathering takes place in a beautifully adorned garden, filled with aromatic flowers and lush greenery. At Casa Rituals, our philosophy is centered on infusing mindful intention into the busy rhythms of modern life. We achieve this by creating a harmonious space that integrates sound healing and sacred rituals, fostering internal peace and alignment. Upon your arrival, a ceremonial smudging and blessing will be offered, creating a space to release the daily burdens. Following this, you’ll be presented with a cup of the finest Ceremonial Cacao leading this sacred heart-opening Cacao Ceremony. The Cacao serves to relax, unlock the heart chakra, and make one more receptive to the forthcoming healing experience. Finally, visitors will gently transition into a Yoga Nidra meditation and a deep sound healing session. During this time, they will become fully immersed in the soothing and restorative energies of the Gong, Crystal singing bowls, and other high-frequency instruments.

Ribbit the Exhibit II Grand Opening & Family Day

Be among the first to visit Ribbit the Exhibit II as it officially opens at Mounts Botanical Garden. The collection of 18 larger-than-life, whimsical frog sculptures will be displayed throughout the Garden, offering a playful and imaginative exploration of amphibians. These fun and quirky sculptures also create opportunities for engaging programming about real frogs and their essential role in our environment. Each piece is handcrafted and colored with natural patina by artist Andy Cobb. To celebrate the grand opening, there will be numerous activities celebrating the exhibit for visitors of all ages, including arts and crafts activities, live entertainment, food trucks, and more. Ribbit the Exhibit II will be open during Mounts Botanical’s regular Garden hours through May 25, 2025.

Palm Beach Cocktail Event Planned for November 21st

WEST PALM BEACH, FL—In just four years, a local movement started in West Palm Beach by a group of college students has reached seven cities and crossed overseas to serve internationally. This November, the Give Back Community supporters and donors will celebrate and gather for an evening of curated cocktails, live music, and meaningful connections to not only celebrate their achievements, but share plans for the future.

Founder Umberto Rosi had always aspired to come to the U.S. because of what he imagined the country would be. As a student at Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2020, he and his friends saw many homeless individuals in Downtown West Palm Beach. One night, they decided to do something nice and provided meals for some of those they saw on the streets. It became a regular occurrence, and The Give Back Community was born.

“We realized the impact of how a simple gesture could change the lives of not just the recipients but also young volunteers,” says Rosi, whose faith-based community and its members collaborate with numerous churches, small businesses, and large corporations.

Rosi and his team recognized the challenges caused by excessive social media use and its impact on youth. They launched an engaging platform that enables teens and young adults to connect with their communities through programs and events. The Give Back Community offers 30 monthly events to its 100 recurring young volunteers per month.

The group has donated over 100,000 “Game Day” meals and recorded over 50,000 volunteer hours. In addition, 50 children are receiving faith-based education and meals through “Give Back School.” Current cities with programs include West Palm Beach, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Rome, São Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, and Buenos Aires.

Celebrated Carter Family Home Dedication in Lake Worth Beach

Homeowner Surprised with Fully Furnished Home

LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL (October 28, 2024) Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County (Habitat GPBC) hosted a heartfelt dedication ceremony for the Carter family’s new home on October 17, 2024, in Lake Worth Beach. The home was generously sponsored by The Breakers Palm Beach and built on land donated by the Lake Worth Beach CRA, and the City of Lake Worth Beach, in partnership with Women Build 2024 co-chairs and committee, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters.

Rebecca (Becca) and her daughter celebrated becoming first-time homebuyers with family, friends, and community supporters. Before applying to Habitat’s Homeownership Program, Becca, a single mom, who works in marketing sales and customer service, worked with the local nonprofit, Hearts for Moms to prepare for homeownership. At Women Build 2024, she learned she had been accepted into Habitat’s program, putting her on the path to her dream. Becca is overjoyed to have secured a safe, stable, and affordable home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. She and her daughter look forward to the many memories they will create together in their new home.

The Breakers Palm Beach, the home sponsor, played a vital role in making the Carter Family’s homeownership dreams come true. In addition to helping fund the construction of the house, Breakers’ employees volunteered their time on the job site to help build Becca’s home.

People of Purpose to Host “Walk in My Shoes”

The community is invited to attend the experience aimed at helping returning citizens build lives of purpose

Palm Beach County (October 21, 2024) – People of Purpose, a Palm Beach County based nonprofit committed to helping returning citizens build lives of purpose, invites the community to walk in the shoes of a returning citizen at the “Walk In My Shoes” event happening on November 16, 2024, at Khanna House Studios 3361 Fairlane Farms Rd suite 4, in Wellington. The goal of the event is to challenge the existing belief biases surrounding formerly incarcerated individuals and their journeys. 

Attendees will enjoy a buffet-style dinner, open bar, silent and live auction, sneaker contest with prizes, and a runway-style show featuring local community leaders who will walk to the firsthand narrated stories of life before, during, and after incarceration. The community will be given a unique opportunity to understand the challenges and triumphs of reentering society after incarceration. Personal stories will be heard, engagement in discussions, and will gain an insight into the journey of returning citizens.

This inaugural event aims to further the mission of People of Purpose by sharing the testimonies of individuals who have experienced incarceration. Through detailed narratives, attendees will gain a deeper understanding with empathy of their struggles and walk in their shoes for one night.

Celebrate the Season at Germany’s Christmas Markets

Twinkling lights, wooden stalls filled with local wares, glockenspiels and the delicious warmth of Glühwein—the season’s traditional spiced mulled wine combine to create the magical experience of Germany’s Christmas markets. As the place where many Christmas traditions began, the State of Thuringia in eastern Germany delivers a truly special experience steeped in longstanding traditions. From a medieval bridge lined with shops and galleries to a village where the first glass Christmas ornament emerged, you’ll remember this experience for years to come.

The Spellbinding Market of Erfurt

Martin Luther, the great Reformer, once declared Erfurt “the perfect place for a city.” The capital of Thuringia dates back more than 1,270 years. It’s truly a charming city in any season with its beautifully preserved old quarter, half-timbered buildings and the Merchants Bridge—a medieval bridge lined with shops and galleries displaying the work of local artisans. But when the holiday season arrives, Erfurt transforms into a spellbinding display of sights and sounds.

In the heart of the city, Domplatz boasts one of Germany’s largest Christmas markets. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the majestic St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Church of St. Severus, the welcoming aromas of spiced mulled wine, gingerbread and sausage fill the air as you wander through the town’s main square. Over 200 wooden huts display everything from candles to hand-crafted toys to Christmas tree decorations. There’s also plenty to satisfy your appetite including regional favorites such as Thuringian bratwurst and Erfurt schittchen, a stollen so good it’s been registered as a trademark.

The History and Charm of Weimar

A UNESCO World Heritage site with 14 protected buildings, Weimar was home to many notable figures in history. Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Friedrich Schiller lived and wrote here. Johann Sebastian Bach played the organ, Franz Liszt was a music director and Carl Maria von Weber composed. It’s the birthplace of Bauhaus—a revolution in design. And, in 1815, Weimar became the site of the first public Christmas tree erected in Germany.

Bookseller Johann Wilhelm Hoffmann erected the first Christmas tree outside of his shop. His desire for the poor and orphaned children of Weimar to have a Christmas tree sparked a worldwide tradition. To commemorate his gesture, every year the elaborately decorated tree is erected on the market square to the accompaniment of Christmas carols performed by local choirs.

A highlight of the Weimar Christmas market is the Gothic Weimar Town Hall. During the season, the 24 windows of the building are converted into a life-size Advent Calendar. Each day a window is opened by local children to discover a theme of the day at the market. You’ll also find a uniquely Weimar display on the wooden huts of the market—the onion plait. A nod to Weimar’s favorite vegetable celebrated each October at Zwiebelmarkt, the Onion Market. The festival began in 1635 as a “market for onions and beasts” and continues today. Attracting upwards of 350,000 visitors over three days, the Onion Market is the largest festival in Thuringia.

A Castle for Christmas in Eisenach

Perched high on a mountaintop, the Wartburg Castle silently watches over the city of Eisenach below. Dating back as far as the Middle Ages, the castle showcases a blend of Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance architecture. Centuries of history unfold within its ancient walls decorated with mosaics, frescoes, and other expressions of German Romanticism. The castle sheltered Martin Luther while he translated the New Testament into German. No visit to Eisenach is complete without a trip up to the castle. Castle courtyards fill with medieval musicians, performers and puppeteers during the Christmas market as Advent concerts in the ceremonial hall evoke the holiday spirit.

Experience the Craftsmanship of the Thuringian Forest

While the city markets delight, a visit to the Thuringian Forest is essential to discover the place where so many Christmas traditions were born. Producing traditional wooden toys, dolls and stuffed animals for centuries, Sonneberg earned the title of “Santa’s other workshop.” The town still produces high-quality toys and also houses the German Toy Museum.

Tucked into the Thüringer Schiefergebirge Mountains, surrounded by forests, you’ll find the small village of Lauscha. It was here that the first glass Christmas ornaments were created in the 16th century. Generations later, the original family still produces ornaments for distribution around the world. I watched in amazement as the glassblowers transformed unlikely raw materials, including sand and limestone, into delicate masterpieces—and then I shopped. How could I resist so many beautiful things in one place?
