Young Frankenstein

Oct 4-21, 2018

From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation, The Producers, comes this monster musical comedy. The comedy genius, Mel Brooks, adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein! Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.

Barefoot in the Park

Nov 15 – Dec 2, 2018

Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find – too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic, Velasco, where everything that can go wrong, does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie, as she sees it. He’s too staid, too boring, and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. Running “barefoot in the park” would be a start…

Camelot

Jan 17 – Feb 3, 2019

Borrowing from the Arthurian legends, Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot is the duo’s fantastical masterpiece which triumphed on Broadway in a legendary original production that lead to a film version, and numerous revivals in New York, London and across the globe. Its Original Broadway Cast Album topped the charts  for 60 weeks, with a rich score boasting such gems  as “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “I Loved You Once in Silence,” “The Lusty Month of May,” and of course, “Camelot.”

Wait Until Dark

Feb. 28 – Mar. 17, 2019

A sinister con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, are about to meet their match. They have traced the location of a mysterious doll, which they are much interested in, to the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife, Susy. Sam had apparently been persuaded by a strange woman to transport the doll across the Canadian border, not knowing that sewn inside were several grams of heroin. When the woman is murdered the situation becomes more urgent. The con man and his ex-convicts, through a cleverly constructed deception, convince Susy that the police have implicated Sam in the woman’s murder, and the doll, which she believes is the key to his innocence, is evidence. She refuses to reveal its location, and with the help of a young neighbor, figures out she is the victim of a bizarre charade.

Wait Until Dark is a tense thriller from the acclaimed writer of Dial M for Murder.

Sweet Charity

Apr 11-28, 2019

Inspired by Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria, SWEET CHARITY explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score by Cy Coleman, sparkling lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and a hilarious book by Neil Simon, SWEET CHARITY captures all the energy, humor, and heartbreak of Life in the Big City. Musical numbers include: “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This,” “I’m a Brass Band” and “Baby, Dream Your Dream.”

PALM BEACH COUNTY TEACHERS OFFERED WELL DESERVED BREAK

West Palm Beach…Teachers need a break, no matter what they teach or where their classroom is.  This is one reason Rosenthal, Levy, Simon and Ryles are hosting a complimentary afternoon of pampering for Palm Beach County teachers at the Midterm Madness event on March 9, 2018, at the Airport Hilton, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Elaine Larsen drives a jet dragster at 300+ mph, co-manages a shop of interns and future NASA engineers, and is the marketing face and brains behind the Larsen Motorsports Racing. She has appeared with Jay Leno, has her own Bobblehead doll and die cast dragster, has been the guest on What’s My Line, is a STEM ambassador, Dick Moroso Award Recipient, two-time IHRA Jet Dragster World Champion, and Space Coast Hall of Famer. Elaine Larsen is a woman known for pushing boundaries and breaking stereotypes. One thing she is not known for is being a Kindergarten teacher, one of the many job she held while supporting her husband, Chris Larsen’s, aviation career.

Although she is now considered one of the top Jet Car Pilots in the country she is still teaching.

“I think I’ve always enjoyed teaching and sharing knowledge with all ages.  It’s so great to be with young people and be able to make a difference in their lives, encouraging them to live out their dreams, and not be afraid to live large,” said Elaine about her love of working with people. She continues to teach, whether it is at her 30,000 sq. ft shop located at Florida Institute of Technology, a seminar for Women in Aviation, or at the track of a national event. Her students vary from F.I.T. students, her interns, kindergarten children, summer camps, career days, and high schools. Elaine will be speaking to a room full of teachers at the Midterm Madness event and talking to them about challenges of communicating and Keeping Focused on the Finish Line.

In addition to the Larsen Jet Dragster there will be other activities to entertain the teachers like the Xscape Room, massages and facials for pampering, food and beverages to help refresh, and non-profit organizations to provide ideas for school activities and supplies. Resource Depot is a non-profit organization that turn almost 200,000 pounds of reusable stuff a year into classroom and alternative art materials, equipping educational programs throughout Palm Beach County, they along with Red Apple supplies, will be providing free resources for the teachers. The Literacy coalition, P.A.L., and Pandora’s Kids child bereavement counseling are other non-profits that will be on hand to support the teachers.

“We designed Midterm Madness to give teachers the relaxation and fun they really need by the time March rolls around and provide much-needed inspiration and information about community resources that support them” said Jonathan Levy, Partner and Shareholder at Rosenthal, Levy, Simon and Ryles.

Teachers should register for this free event online at www.rosenthallevy.com/. The deadline for registration is March 5th. Registrations are open to 350 Palm Beach County teachers. A school I.D. must be presented at the door for admission.

STATE ATTORNEY DAVE ARONBERG TO CONVENE GRAND JURY ON SCHOOL SAFETY

0
STATE ATTORNEY DAVE ARONBERG
TO CONVENE GRAND JURY ON SCHOOL SAFETY

In the wake of the mass shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Palm Beach County State Attorney announced that he is convening a Grand Jury on the subject of school safety and preparedness, including active shooter protocols and prevention. Aronberg said that the Grand Jury will evaluate the current system of protecting Palm Beach County students from school violence and examine a wide array of proposals, from developing effective early warning systems and enhancing school security to limitations on assault weapons, more effective background checks and mental health reforms.

Aronberg noted that the day after 17 people were murdered in Parkland, a student at Palm Beach Lakes High School was arrested for bringing two guns to school.  In addition, since the Parkland tragedy, Palm Beach County schools have been the target of a large number of copycat threats on social media.  The threats have alarmed parents and school administrators, prompting Aronberg, Palm Beach County School Superintendent Robert Avossa, and Sheriff Ric Bradshaw to warn students of the criminal consequences of making such threats, even in jest.

Just steps from Palm Beach County’s southern border, Parkland “serves as a reminder that no community is immune from school violence,” said Aronberg.  “That’s why we need to remain vigilant to ensure that we’re doing everything we can to keep our kids safe.”  Aronberg explained that “a Grand Jury is insulated from politics and pressure, which makes it a powerful vehicle to evaluate our current policies and propose changes to make our schools safer,” said Aronberg.

State Attorney Aronberg said that these issues will be brought before the current Grand Jury, and he expects a Presentment with findings and recommendations by June.

This marks the second time since his election in 2012 that Aronberg has used the Palm Beach County Grand Jury to probe an issue of great public importance:  In 2016, a Grand Jury investigated fraud and abuse in the drug rehab and sober home industries, which led to major reforms in state law a year later.

Boca West Country Club to Launch Job Training

Internship Program for Young Adults with Disabilities

Boca Raton FL – February 22, 2018 – Boca West Country Club has entered into an agreement with The Unicorn Children’s Foundation, Inc. to launch a job training internship program for young adults with disabilities in August of 2018.  Interns will range in age from 17-24 years of age who have an intellectual or developmental disability which makes it statistically more difficult for them to find jobs upon completion of high school.  The unemployment rate for youth with disabilities is approximately 80% despite their ability and willingness to work.  With the launch of the Project SEARCH site at Boca West Country Club, it is expected that at least 74% of interns will find competitive and meaningful employment following graduation.

Boca West Country Club will be the first private residential community to participate in this internationally renowned program.  Matthew Linderman, COO & General Manager of Boca West Country Club shared “We are honored to be the first company chosen to partner with the Unicorn Children’s Foundation/Unicorn Village Academy for this project and excited to get it on board.  My team and I are certain this is the beginning of a long successful collaboration.”

The Unicorn Children’s Foundation, Inc., recognized as a leading expert in the field of special needs, introduced the program to Boca West Country Club after receiving a training and planning grant from the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council to expand the Project SEARCH program and improve employment outcomes for these young adults.

Unicorn Children’s Foundation CEO, Sharon Alexander, added “This evidence-based program will not only reduce recruitment costs, improve retention rates in high turnover positions, enhance workforce diversity at Boca West Country Club, but we hope that it will create a cultural shift of acceptance, inclusion, and opportunity throughout the community.”

An information night will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Unicorn Village Academy in Boca Raton from 6-7:30pm for interested families.  Students should currently be enrolled in a Palm Beach County, Broward County or other private school and be interested in increasing independence, confidence and self-esteem while learning competitive, transferable, and marketable job skills.  For more information or to reserve your space, contact Ivonne Rodriguez at 561-620-9377 or ivonne@eunicorn.org.

National Day of Action Against Gun Violence in Schools

I pledge to join the National Day of Action on April 20 to Protect Students Against Gun Violence. I will urge my friends, family, and neighbors to join the Day of Action as well. The failure to enact rational laws around the purchase of guns that are designed for mass shootings is inexcusable. The time to act is now.  Every child deserves to learn in a school that is safe.
