Highlighting a hot topic in Miami—ranked as 7th worst congestion in the nation—Traffic Jam is a quirky and thoughtful project which engages community to create compositions for an ensemble of cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, and conventional instruments.

On Sat., Dec. 3 @ 3pm in the MDC surface parking lot on Biscayne Boulevard between Building 3 and the Freedom Tower between 5 & 6th Streets will be an all day free, interactive, public performance of unconventional music-making when artists will “play” their vehicles.

Featuring:

Inlets Ensemble presenting new site specific works for skateboarding ukulele players, car stereos, and electric car windows by Jorge Gomez and Robert Blatt.  Inlets Ensemble is a Miami-based new music ensemble comprised of some of the city’s most adventurous musicians and sound artists.

Kunstwaffen 1916 will perform a quartet for choreographed musical bicycles.  Prepared in the manner of John Cage and Frank Zappa, bicycle wheels will be outfitted with guitar strings and other noise-making objects.  These sounds will be amplified and processed, ultimately creating a lush and unusual sonic fabric.  Think a pretty junkyard music box.  Kunstwaffen 1916 plays plays concert band music from the 1910s that is intentionally distorted and obscured.

Karen Peterson Dance presents an intimate duet for mixed ability dancers Katrina Weaver and John Beauregard.  A live musical score will be created from amplified and processed components of the wheelchair and dancer bodies.

Emerge Miami will create interactive automobile installations that examine the different ways people engage with their vehicles. Featuring a make out car complete with an artificial “make out point” vista to facilitate canoodling! Emerge Miami’s mission is to strengthen social bonds between progressive individuals, organizations and independent businesses in South Florida in order to more effectively accomplish our individual goals.
Manita Brug-Chmielenska and Randy Burman will present a large scale, interactive xylophone made from automobile hoods and parts.  The parts will be amplified and can be played by audience members with a variety of objects provided.

Students from Guitars Over Guns will present new works on car stereos made from sampled car sounds and field recordings.  Created in workshops using DJ program Ableton Live. Guitars Over Guns delivers high impact arts-based mentoring programs to empower at-risk youth.

Leading up to the performance, visiting artist Steve Parker will lead workshops for community members to convert their bicycles into musical instruments.  These fleets of bicycles will appear in pop-up performances throughout downtown Miami.

“Music in a traditional auditorium is well and good, but if we’ve learned one thing from Steve Parker, it’s that all the world’s a concert hall. His boldness and fervor inspire us and carloads of other music lovers to go off-roading with him at every opportunity.” –The Austin Chronicle

Building Our Future…For the Love of Animals

Jupiter, FLFurry Friends Adoption Clinic and Ranch is proud and excited to announce the ribbon cutting and groundbreaking for their new almost 15,000 square foot facility in Jupiter Industrial Park.  The building, located at the corner of Industrial Way and Capital Road in Jupiter Industrial Park, will be the home to the adoption center and the state-of-the-art clinic.

The Ribbon Cutting will be performed by the North County Chamber of Commerce on December 1, 2016, at 12:00pm.  Several Jupiter dignitaries, community leaders, and beloved donors will be attending as well as chamber ambassadors The public is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Chief veterinarian Dr. Todd Vinoski said, “We are very excited to see the plans for the new spacious and cutting edge clinic.  The new building will afford us the opportunity to be more efficient so we are even better equipped to serve the community.”

The ribbon cutting and groundbreaking will kick-off a capital campaign to raise approximately 2.5 million dollars. There have already been several generous donations pledged but much more is needed. There are numerous ways to donate and no donation is too small. There will be many naming opportunities available in the new building, for all levels of commitment.  To learn more, contact Pat Deshong, President of Furry Friends, at 747-5311 ext. 1.

A substantial part of our operating expenses relies on raising funds through our various events, solicitations, and our thrift shop.  While the clinic is a source of income, it doesn’t come close to being able to sustain all of our rescue and life-saving efforts.  Without the support of our donors, we would not be able to rescue as many of the animals in dire need of help in our community.

Currently, Furry Friends is headquartered in Maplewood Plaza in Jupiter Florida and expands beyond Jupiter’s borders with a 27-acre ranch located in Palm City.

At any given time, the Maplewood location has about 75 dogs and 60 cats.  The new building will provide greater opportunities to house and treat the many pets in need of housing and care with  four exam rooms, a laser treatment room and many other much-needed upgrades to the current clinic.

Additionally, Furry Friends veterinary clinic provides affordable animal healthcare to resident animals and to the public.  Services include annual wellness checks, in-house bloodwork, X-rays, dental cleaning, spay/neuter surgery, and more.  The clinic also offers an online pharmacy for all of your pet’s needs

Furry Friends serves both the local Jupiter community besides being a refuge for dogs and cats from the islands and Miami all the way to North Florida and beyond. Included in the building will be a birthing suite for mothers and puppies.  Furry Friends has birthed and found homes for hundreds of puppies and looks forward to being able to continue and expand this service.

Furry Friends also operates a 27-acre ranch in Palm City that is home to approximately 30 dogs, 70 cats, and 4 horses, most of which are available for adoption, making Furry Friends the largest no-kill shelter in the North Palm Beach County and martin County.

Humane Society of Greater Jupiter Tequesta Inc. dba Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch has been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming homeless animals in our community for more than 30 years.

To learn more, about Furry Friends and how you can support the organization visit www.furryfriendsadoption.org or call Pat Deshong, President at 747-5311 ext. 1.
