The month of May is all about Mom. Mother’s day is a day to treat Mom to something special to thank her for all that she does, and Serenity Garden Tea House & Café is the perfect place to just that. Nestled on a quiet street on the outskirts of downtown West Palm Beach, Serenity Garden Tea House is an oasis of charm and delight. The tea house is actually a converted 1920’s cottage filled with nostalgic décor that will make you think you have time traveled back to a time where high tea was the epitome of refinement. Opened in 1998, the tea house is run by the wonderfully charming, Irish-born, Audrey Farrelly. Audrey oversees every detail of your experience at Serenity Garden, ensuring your experience is grand.

Serenity Garden offers a full lunch menu along with a dazzling array of desserts, but their claim to fame is the traditional high tea they offer daily. For those of you who have never experienced high tea, I do suggest you add it to your bucket list. High tea is not just a piece of cake and a cup of tea in the late afternoon hours before dinner. High tea is an event, an experience meant to be savored and lingered over. High tea is an art as well as an experience. The pomp and circumstance that comes with high tea is meant to be respected and enjoyed. At Serenity Garden, they take their high tea seriously so you can enjoy the whole experience. Delight in the large array of wonderful loose leaf teas you can select from. Try every small sandwich and bite-sized sweet confection they bring on a gilded multilevel caddy. Spread the fresh clotted cream on the scratch-baked scone and soak in the atmosphere of lace, china, and feathers. You will never want to leave.

Serenity Garden offers a wonderful mother’s day high tea that is highly popular. I just love taking my mother there and people watching, as we sip our Earl Grey out of thin china cups. There is a powerful feeling of celebration and honor in the air as mothers and daughters share cucumber sandwiches. Wear a fancy hat and put on your Sunday best to truly get into the mood. Reservations are highly recommended for mother’s day due to the long-standing popularity of the event.

April 27, 2015 – Want to make a difference in our community and have fun doing it?

Join us for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s Family Night Out at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter on Tuesday, May 5, or the Theatre’s End of Season Happy Hour Celebration at Harbourside Place’s Tommy Bahama restaurant on Wednesday, May 6.

All ages are welcome at the Tuesday evening Roger Dean stadium event, which will feature raffles, prizes and the 6:35 p.m. baseball game between the Jupiter Hammerheads and the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

“This is a great opportunity to bring the entire family out to Roger Dean Stadium for a fun-filled evening of baseball, prizes and more,” said Andrew Kato, the Theatre’s producing artistic director. “It’s an affordable way to support the not-for-profit Maltz Jupiter Theatre while having a great time at a fantastic event.”

The event will feature performances from the Theatre’s Youth Touring Company, as well as a first pitch thrown by Theatre volunteer and Hobe Sound resident Margaret Wigiser, a former star Rockford Peach (the team made famous in the film A League of Their Own). Wigiser recorded the longest home run ever hit at Rockford Park during the short time she played for Minneapolis, then became the regular center fielder on the championship Peaches Team. She later became the first Director of Girls High School Sports in New York City.

On Wednesday, May 6, mingle with friends and network with business associates to benefit the Theatre. Harbourside Place’s Tommy Bahama restaurant and bar will host an End of Season Happy Hour Celebration from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring an open air soiree, entertainment, raffles, prizes and happy hour pricing for select food and drink items. Supported by 95.9 The Palm, those who donate $10 or more to the Theatre at the door through the Great Give campaign will receive a free appetizer card for their next visit.

“We are thrilled to have wonderful community partners like Roger Dean Stadium, Harbourside Place and Tommy Bahama that make this all possible,” said Jennifer Sardone-Shiner, the Theatre’s director of marketing. “We’d like to invite everyone in the community to come together and support the arts at one or both of these fun-filled events.”

LAURIE SNOW HEIN FEATURED ARTIST AT WELLINGTON ART SOCIETY 

The Wellington Art Society will hold the last meeting of the season on May 13, 2015 at Bootz Culture Camp, 420 State Road 7, Suite 120 .  Meet and greet will begin at 6:30 followed by a member spotlight and a brief meeting.  The demonstration for the evening will be presented by Laurie Snow Hein, well known local artist.

Laurie is published and licensed world wide as an award winning artist and illustrator.  Her painting style is “Old World Realism” which is highlighted in her Southern landscapes, Everglades, tropical plants and seascapes.  Her paintings are alive with vibrant color and light.  She is also known for her creative portraits of children, animals and adults which seem to capture the personality of the subject.  Laurie also teaches art classes, conducts workshops  and displays her art in the top festivals throughout the country.

The Wellington Art Society is a non-profit charitable organization In its 35th year.  It is open to artists of all mediums and patrons of the arts, allowing both local and regional artists to display their art work in local galleries, interact with other artists and serve the community through. their art.

Kerri Verna has been a fitness instructor for over 10 years and has taught Pilates, Kickboxing, Tai Chi, and Yoga. Most known for her Instagram account@beachyogagirl, she has gathered about 600,000 people that find inspiration, encouragement, and wisdom through Kerri’s photos and words.

 

She understands the everyday person who struggles with fitness because, until the age of 28, she had never worked out a day in her life. Her love for Yoga started when she became pregnant with her first child 10 years ago and couldn’t do high impact fitness classes anymore.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League Provides Key Tips to Help Kittens Thrive During Kitten Season
Palm Beach County, FL-(April 21, 2015) Kitten season is upon us and is the time of year when cats give birth, flooding animal shelters and rescue groups across the nation with homeless litters.  Kitten season is really three seasons in one, starting in spring, peaking in late spring or early summer and ending in the fall.  Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is providing critical public awareness tips for the public to help kittens, shelters and community withstand the season. The abundance of litters throughout the area typically causes an unnecessary increased intake of kittens at area shelters even though it is best for kittens to be left with their mothers.
 “The goal is to keep the mother and kittens together to ensure the best chances for the kittens’ survival, until the kittens are weaned and can be safely removed for socialization and adoption,” said Rich Anderson, Executive Director and CEO of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
 Animal shelters similar to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League are significantly impacted during this time of year, even though kittens need their mothers to survive. It also causes impact to shelter staff who do not have the resources to feed the kittens around the clock.
 Before jumping to the rescue, consider the following:
  • In the first weeks of their lives, kittens need their mother’s care and antibodies from her milk. As they grow, the mother will begin to give her kittens the critical training needed to survive on their own.
  • Before concluding that the kittens have been abandoned, quietly observe from a safe distance to determine if the mother is present. The mother will continually stay with her litter for the first day or two after giving birth. Then, she will need to leave for short periods of time to find food for herself. If the mother is not present, she is most likely scouting for food and will return.
  • A mother cat will instinctively move her nest of kittens. If a single, young kitten is spotted, it is likely that it is the first of the group to be moved to the new location or the last of the group to get moved from the old location.
  • Do not interfere with the kittens or the space they are occupying. It is essential to not handle them, create shelter, or feed them as long as the mother is around. These interventions may cause the mother stress and for her to abandon her family.
  • Help by providing food and water to the mother. Be sure to place food and water far enough away from the nest so you do not disturb the mother and kittens, or draw predators.
Following these simple measures will increase the survival rate of the kittens, allowing them to thrive in their natural environment. Additionally, it will allow local animal shelters to use their resources to further assist the current shelter population with the critical care they need and help place adoptable animals in homes.

9th Annual Palm Beach Wine Auction to feature exciting new auction lots and local chefs
(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) – The Palm Beach Wine Auction on January 29, 2015 was the most successful in the Auction’s eight-year history, raising over $460,000 net, and the excitement continues with the announcement of a confirmed date for next year’s Auction: Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, FL.

Since its inception, the Palm Beach Wine Auction has raised $2.4 million net for the education programs at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Such programs include the S*T*A*R (Students and Teachers Arts Resource) Series, which brings thousands of students to the Kravis Center each year for diverse performances in theater, dance and music. This season, more than 70,000 children will benefit from the Kravis Center’s performing arts education programs.
“To reach out and help with opening a child’s mind to the performing arts is not just a cause, but an ongoing obligation,” said Palm Beach Wine Auction Founder and Chair Ted Mandes. “That is the mission of the Palm Beach Wine Auction. This exclusive event provides us the opportunity to involve a worldwide audience who values performing arts and create awareness of the Kravis Center’s education programs that are so vital to our youth today.”
In addition to the confirmed date, Palm Beach Wine Auction organizers are excited to share other news about next year’s event, including:
  • Addison Reserve Country Club Executive Chef Zach Bell will return in 2016 as the Auction’s chef de cuisine.
  • Executive Chef Joe Ferro of West Palm Beach’s Table 26 Palm Beach will be featured as a new member of the chef team in 2016.
  • Chef Joe Mercuri of Mercuri Montreal will be a returning chef.
