YOUNG FRIENDS OF THE KRAVIS CENTER WAGER ON GREAT EVENT WITH GOURMET FOOD, GAMES AND RHYTHM

Annual Reach for the Stars Turns 22 with Kravis Royale: Cha Cha Ching Party!

(West Palm Beach, Fla.)  Some 500 Kravis Center supporters who attended the Reach for the Stars benefit on Saturday, November 8th hit the jackpot with endless stations of food, wine and specialty drinks, along with gaming tables and Latin music – all to benefit the education programs of the cultural gem.

A signature benefit of the Young Friends of the Kravis Center, Reach for the Stars annually raises funds for the Kravis Center’s S*T*A*R (Students and Teachers Arts Resource) Series and education programs. In celebration of its 22nd annual event, Reach for the Stars celebrated coming of age with big crowds for its “Kravis Royale: Cha Cha Ching Party!” theme, back after it was first introduced at Kravis Center last season.

Local restaurants provided four stories of stations throughout the lobby to feature their own favorite menu items for the event. Participants included Aioli, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Brio Tuscan Grille, Café Chardonnay, Chowder Heads, Del Frisco’s Grille, Echo, Flagler Steakhouse, Ganache Bakery Cafe, Havana Restaurant, Leila Restaurant, Paneterie, Pistache French Bistro and Serenity Garden Tea House & Restaurant.

When guests won big at the gaming tables throughout the Kravis Center lobbies, they converted their winnings to raffle tickets.  Raffle prizes for the evening included five-star hotel stays, a cruise, exquisite jewelry, health packages, photography services, golf packages, restaurant gift certificates, gala tickets and even a personal helicopter tour of Palm Beach County.

“We are thrilled with the attendance and support at this year’s Reach for the Stars benefit,” said Cory Valentine, event co-chair with Zachary Berg.  “Thank you to the Young Friends Executive Committee for all of your efforts to make this benefit another successful evening.  It is through events such as this that we can continue to raise necessary funds for the Center’s education programs, which opens the door to live theater for more than 60,000 children in our community annually.”

Assisting Berg, Valentine and the Young Friends Executive Committee in this year’s roll of the dice were CBS12 News anchor Liz Quirantes, as the guest emcee; and as celebrity Blackjack Dealers, Tim Byrd “The Byrdman” of PalmBeachLiveWorkPlay.com; Josh Cohen, ESPN West Palm; Erin Guy of WPBF 25 News; Deena Lang and Bill Adams from the morning show with Jennifer Ross at Sunny 107.9; and Jay Zeager, 95.9 FM Seaview Radio.

Event sponsors were Marcie Gorman-Althof and Jane M. Mitchell.

SOUTH FLORIDA SCIENCE CENTER AND AQUARIUM ANNOUNCES 2015 BENEFIT

Jeremy Wade, biologist and host of Animal Planet’s “River Monsters,” will headline annual fundraiser

(West Palm Beach, Fla.)  Jeremy Wade, wildly popular host of Animal Planet’s “River Monsters,” will be the guest presenter at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium’s annual benefit.  Wade will treat guests to a lively discussion about conservation, drawing anecdotes from his world-wide travels.  The evening takes place on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at The Breakers.

Jeremy Wade

Jeremy Wade is a biologist, extreme angler and writer specializing in travel and natural history. He is best known for using fishing as a means to look beneath the surface of human life in remote places.  An expert in ecology, rivers and conservation, Wade’s objective is to teach about animals which people are unfamiliar, his philosophy being “you can’t care about what you don’t know about.”  Animal Planet’s most popular show, “River Monsters” was created to advocate for an appreciation of animals, delivering ecological and environmental lessons with a fine mix of suspense-filled entertainment.  Along the way Wade survived a near-fatal dose of malaria in the Congo, been arrested for spying in South-East Asia and experienced a plane crash in the Amazon.

In addition to the March 5 benefit, Wade will make a special appearance at the Science Center for the museum’s monthly “Parents Night Out” on Friday, March 6, which serves as an additional benefit event. Wade’s presentation to the  children will highlight the importance of ecology and conservation.  Reaching children of all ages is a personal goal of Wade’s because, as he says, “they really get into strange names and obscure facts, becoming an ideal audience for conservation messages.”  “Parents Night Out” is open to children ages 4 to 12.

“’River Monsters’ offers people all over the globe access to ecological and environmental science – all while making science exciting and interesting,” said Lew Crampton, Science Center CEO.  “Wade is a perfect fit for our benefit and mission, as we strive daily to meet the informal science education needs of our community.  As part of his visit, we are thrilled he has agreed to do a kids-only benefit.  It is critical to engage children at a young age and turn them on to a future in science as so many STEM jobs, those specializing in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, are going unfilled as there are not enough qualified candidates.”

Event leadership includes Lew and Kathleen Crampton, Jeffrey and Frances Fisher, Elizabeth and Benjamin Gordon, Matthew and Heléne Lorentzen and John and Heidi Niblack.

Tickets for the March 5 event are $500 per person and seating is limited. Contact Marcy Hoffman at (561) 370-7738 or mhoffman@sfsciencecenter.org for more information or for sponsorship opportunities.
