HISTORICAL WALKING TOURS WITH RICK GONZALEZ RESUME FOR SEASON
Each month, take a walk through history
with The Historical Society of Palm Beach County beginning November 14th!
West Palm Beach, FL | November 11, 2013 – The Historical Society of Palm Beach County will host a free Downtown West Palm Beach History Stroll, led by Architect and Historian Rick Gonzalez of REG Architects, next Friday, November 14th. This is the first Historical Walking Tour of the season, which will occur one Friday per month through May 2015. The one-hour guided tour showcases the evolution of downtown West Palm Beach, highlighting historic buildings and notable landmarks. This very popular tour also features an overview of historical urban design through recent area development.

Staring Time: 7:00am
All runners will be given jingle bells prior to the race.
Divisions: Male/ Female Age, Santa, Mrs.Claus, Elves, and Male/Female Stroller.
Course Certified by USA Track and Field.

Registered participants have the option to donate an un-wrapped toy.
They will be donated to the Village of Wellington for families in our community.

November, 2014 – “A Taste of Art”
Cultural Council of Palm Beach County Supports Local Artists
“A Taste of Art” Encourages “Buy Local” Movement
(Lake Worth/November 6, 2014): The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is taking the hassle and hurry out of holiday shopping this year with “A Taste of Art” on November 14 from 6-9 p.m. The event, which will be held at the Cultural Council building at 601 Lake Avenue in Lake Worth, is a unique way to encourage the “buy local” movement with an emphasis on supporting the work of artists who live or work in Palm Beach County.
“A Taste of Art” encourages friends or family to holiday shop together for special people on their gift lists. Guests can stroll, sip, snack and shop their way through the hand-made jewelry, pottery, and other art created by 14 Palm Beach County-based artists.
Admission to the exclusive “A Taste of Art” shopping event and reception on Friday, November 14 is $25 and includes free admission to the Cultural Council’s current art exhibitions: Monochrome, Susan Patterson’s photography, and the exhibitions by artists Patricia Maguire and Dolores Kiriacon. “The Council is always looking for ways to showcase the remarkable artists who live and work in Palm Beach County, and this event is a great way of bringing together our community in support of those artists. The public is invited to the free “A Taste of Art” shopping event on Saturday, November 15 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. which also includes admission to the current Council exhibitions.

WHAT: Modeled after “Science Cafés,” a trend sweeping pubs throughout the country, the Science Center’s “Science on Tap” is the first registered Science Café between Vero Beach and Fort Lauderdale. According to Arrizza, it will be the only place in Palm Beach County where for the price of a cup of coffee, a quality craft beer, or a smooth glass of wine, anyone can come to discuss the latest trends in science and technology with a world-class scientist. With a motto to “drink up – get smart,” you know you are in for a casual-education session, as the goal of the program is for guests to have fun while learning a little bit more about everyday curiosities.
“Science on Tap” is a free event, and patrons can enjoy O’Shea’s happy hour specials, which include $1 off well drinks, $3 draft beers, $4 bottle beers and $3 Irish Car Bomb drinks (starting at 7 p.m.). GMOs Exposed will explain genetically modified organisms, their prevalence in food and their potentially harmful effects.

WHO: Michelle Parenti Lewis is a registered and licensed dietician and health coach. Lewis earned her bachelor in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University and her master of science in Human Environmental Science with a major in Human Nutrition from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Lewis has diverse and specialized experience in clinical nutrition, school nutrition and health behavior and promotion. She has a private practice, Diet Balance (http://www.dietbalance.net), where she works with individuals and families for a variety of issues that include weight loss, healthy eating and lifestyle, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, kidney disease, IBS and many more. WHY: With a new mission to “open every mind to science,” the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit. “Science on Tap” is an opportunity to reach a different science consumer – with a free and exciting presentation looking into the science behind trending topics.

November, 2014 – Hometown Holiday Food Drive
Hometown Holiday Food Drive
Help make the holiday season bright for families in need this year. The Village of Wellington is asking for assistance in making sure no Village resident goes without a hot meal this season. This year’s Hometown Holiday Food Drive is a partnership with InterFaith, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Whole Foods, Ultima Fitness, and Walgreens. Donations will be accepted through Monday, November 17th. Residents are encouraged to contribute the following food items:
- Instant mashed potatoes
- Packaged stuffing (mix)
- Cornbread mix
- Cranberry sauce
- Turkey gravy
- Canned vegetables
Food can be dropped off at the Municipal Complex, the Wellington Community Center, Village Park, Ultima Fitness, Lake Wellington Professional Centre, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office District 8 Substation and the Walgreens located in the Wellington Market Place.
All food donations will go directly to local families in need. Residents looking for assistance can contact Gregg Harr with Wellington Presbyterian Church at (561) 307-2900, Dee Aubry at Wellington Presbyterian Church at (561) 793-1007 or their local house of worship. All requests must me made prior to Wednesday, November 19th.
