DETAILS: Junior League of the Palm Beaches will be hosting a “New Member Mingle Event” Thursday, April, 3, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at 470 Columbia Drive, Building F, West Palm Beach, FL, 33409. The Junior League is welcoming all women who have reached their 22nd birthday by May 31, 2014 and who possess an interest in volunteer work and a commitment to community service.

At the New Member Mingle, current League members will be on hand to provide membership information for the upcoming 2014-15 year, as well as provide insight on the various community programs the League is involved in throughout Palm BeachCounty. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the League in an informal setting. Light refreshments will be served.

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce Has a New President

At a bright and sunny luncheon on March 26th, at the exclusive International Polo Club Palm Beach, the Wellington Chamber of Commerce installed Dr. Randy Laurich of The Wellness Center as the next President.  A new board of directors was also inducted during the ceremony which was conducted by Carmine Priore.

LED Source was the presenting sponsor of the elegant event.  They are a dynamic and innovative local company that focuses on providing full-service, state-of-the-art LED lighting solutions to commercial clients. Celebrity emcee was Brandon Phillips who is considered to be one of the top polo players at this time.  Phillips currently carries a 5-goal handicap and has captured some of the sport’s most coveted trophies

President Victor Connor handed over the helm to Incoming President Dr. Randy Laurich and the 2014-2015 Directors and Officers were inducted.  In attendance were Alec Domb, Dale W. Grimm, Johnny Meier, Former Mayor Darell Bowen, Blanca Greenstein, Mike Nelson and Bill Tavernise.  Joanne Dee and Michael Stone were unable to attend.  See related Photos.

Wellington Debate Team sets Multiple Records

Wellington Debate set multiple team records at the 2014 Palm Beach Catholic Forensic League “Grand Finals” national championship qualifier tournament Saturday, March 29, at William T. Dwyer High School.

A dozen Wolverines will invade the Windy City over Memorial Day Weekend to compete at this year’s NCFL national championship – the most ever to represent Wellington at CatNats.

In addition, Wellington took first place overall in three events at Grand Finals – Congressional Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Public Forum Debate. It was the most first-place finishes Wellington has achieved at the national qualifier.

In Congressional Debate, junior Michael Leatherman earned the top spot among nearly 50 students, 19 of whom advanced to the final round. Three other Wellington debaters – junior Kwadjo Walker, sophomore Victor Sanchez, and freshman Pallavi Taneja – also advanced to the finals of Congressional Debate.

In Lincoln Douglas Debate, senior Yourui Ruan went 5-0 in taking first place. And in Public Forum Debate, the team of seniors Vinnie Gasso & Caitlyn Konopka also went 5-0 in taking top honors.

In PFD, seniors Greg Foster & Kevin Murphy, and freshmen Gillian Kruisland & Caramen McDaniel, also qualified.

Wellington also has a pair of Duo Interpretation competitive acting teams qualify for Chicago: senior Dylan Race & sophomore Savannah Race (performing “Employees Must Wash Hands … Before Murder” by Don Zolidis), and sophomores Antoinette Gray & Cameron Harker (performing Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park”).

Three additional National Forensic League honor degrees were earned by Wellington. Dylan Race surpassed 500 points (Degree of Special Distinction), Olivia Davy passed the 250-point level (Degree of Distinction), and Pallavi Taneja earned her Degree of Honor by passing hte 75-point mark. Wellington now has 266 total degrees, most in the Florida Oceanfront NFL District.

April, 2014 – Coast Guard Boating Safety Class

Coast Guard Boating Safety Class to be held on Saturday, April 12th

The Village of Wellington has partnered with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer residents a certified Boating Safety Class.  The cost is $35 per person and there is a multi-family discount.  The examination will take place in the Wellington Community Center, located at 12150 Forest Hill Blvd.  The Coast Guard will conduct the class on Saturday, April 12th from 8:00am- 4:00pm, with a break for lunch.  This course is designed for individuals aged 17 and older and will teach how to safely operate a boat and local laws and regulations.  Participants will receive a certification at the conclusion of the course.  Please call (561) 791-4082 to register for this important certification.  No payment necessary to register- please bring it with you on the day of the class.

COMMUNITY SERVICES’ OPEN HOUSE

The Village of Wellington, in partnership with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, and the Boys & Girls Club, is hosting an open house at the Community Services Office, located at 1100 Wellington Trace, on Saturday, March 29th from 10am – 12pm.

Residents will have the opportunity to meet staff and discover the numerous programs and opportunities offered through Community Services and its partners. Various Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue vehicles will be on hand to explore as well as information on crime prevention programming such as the Defensive Measures Grant, starting a neighborhood watch group, and a meet and greet with Community Policing Deputies. In addition, there will be materials provided on youth outreach programming for the summer including the Boys & Girls Club summer programming, the summer REACH (Recreation and Education Activities for Children) scholarship, and tours of the Boys & Girls Club facility.

We encourage the residents join us for free refreshments, a bounce house for kids, and to learn what Community Services has to offer!
