Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market in Boynton Beach is hosting the first St. Patrick’s Day Pot O’ Gold Classic & Hot Rod Car Show, organized by the Asphalt Angels Car Club. Among the family-friendly activities that day will be antique tractors on display, door prizes, 50/50 Jackpot, old school music, vintage videos, food vendors and more. The judging will be at 2 p.m. and trophies will be awarded.

27th Annual Engineering Competition

Deadline to register is March 1st

WHO: South Florida Science Museum build_it

WHAT: Elementary, middle and high school students are invited to show off their engineering ingenuity and creative skills through five different design contests in the South Florida Science Musuems 27th annual Drop It, Build It, Fly It, Launch It – Thrill It Engineering Competition 

Competitors will await the news to hear if they have a golden egg or Humpty Dumpty after their egg takes a 3-story drop in their self-made containers in the Drop It competition; or if their bottle rockets will shoot toward the moon, or fizzle out during the Launch It competition.  Bridges will be built, aerodynamic paper airplanes will be flying and roller coasters will be rolling as students compete for nearly $5,000 in prize money to be awarded to the first through fourth place winners in each category.

The competition will be judged by the Florida Engineering Society.  The public is invited to watch the engineering competition being held at the Museum.

Wellington Debate’s Epic Philadelphia Weekend

For the second consecutive year, Wellington Debate traveled to thedebate Liberty Bell Classic Debate Invitational on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania and brought home a championship trophy.

In Public Forum Debate, the team of Rachel Ganon & Vinnie Gasso went 10-1 and took home first place honors from the UPenn tournament, scoring a 3-2 judges decision against Millburn in the finals.

In addition, the team of Ali Sina Booeshaghi & Yourui Ruan advanced to the octofinal round before being knocked out of the tournament.

It was Wellington’s third championship at a major national tournament since Paul Gaba became coach in 2002. The previous one was also earned at UPenn in 2012, when Ruan won Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate.

Wellington’s PFD teams of Sabrina Abesamis & Juliana Diatezua, Kevin Murphy & Greg Foster, and Sydney Rogalsky & Caitlyn Konopka eash narrowly missed advancing to break rounds as well.

By advancing to at least the quarterfinal round, both Ganon & Gasso earned a bid to the 2013 Tournament of Champions national invitational in Kentucky at the end of April.

debate2The team of Ganon & Gasso actually scored a double championship over the weekend of February 15-17 by winning the second annual LBC Public Forum Debate Round Robin Invitational, a pre-tournament competition where 10 teams squared off against each other as a precursor to the full tournament. In the Round Robin, Ganon & Gasso took six of their ten preliminary round ballots, then swept teams from Timber Creek and Union Catholic in two 3-0 decisions to take home the top prize.

Ganon & Gasso each earned 147 National Forensic League points during their 18 rounds of debate competition.

In addition, Rafael Blecher earned his varsity letter and his NFL Degree of Honor by surpassing the 75-point mark.

Arts Group Helps Friends 4 Cancer Research “Healing Through the Arts”

 

Jupiter, FL – Wednesday March 13, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.  The Artists Association of Jupiter will co-host with Unique Glass Art this month’s open house.  The artists of the AAOJ will be promoting the sale of their own artwork to benefit the Friends 4 Cancer Research at their venue A Unique Art Gallery.

                                                                                 

The “Healing Through The Arts” exhibition will feature a unique art sale format where the original artworks will be covered by brown paper with only the artist’s name, title of the work and price placed on the brown paper.   An interested patron will be able to meet and see other artwork the artists have hanging in the gallery to decide if they would like to purchase the art before they are uncovered at 7:00 pm. 50% of these artwork sales will benefit the Friends 4 Cancer Research. All works will be available for sale throughout the evening and the Month of March.

 

This month’s event will help the local charitable organization Friends 4 Cancer Research, Inc. F4RC is a 100% not for profit 501(c)3 committed to funding cancer research facilities in order to find improved treatments, earlier diagnosis programs, and most importantly a cure. 100% of funds raised goes to this cause. WHAT: Looking for something for the kids to do this summer? The South Florida

Science Museum’s Science Summer Camp 2013 is a fun and exciting way to spend the summer.  The Museum is offering 10, one-week sessions of hands-on exploration for young scientists ages 4 to 12.  Each week will have a different theme from Claws, Paws and Jaws, a week all about animal exploration; to magic with potions and crystals during the Potions 101 week; to a week all about Superhero Science. There is something for everyone.  The days will be filled with fun science lessons, laboratories, crafts, and outside activities led by Museum expert science educators.  Kids can sign up for one week or the whole summer, but spots fill quickly for popular weeks.

WHEN: June 10 – August 16, 2013 – one week sessions

Camp starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. with extended hours of structured activities available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Kick Off Their First Session Of The Year

The Small Business RoundTable presented their first session of the 2013 series Thursday evening at Hurricane Grill & Wings in Wellington, Florida.  The theme for 2013 is “Creating a BUZZ” and the session that night was entitled “The Art of Attracting Customers Through Media.”  The sponsor of the event was Eric H. Light, P.A., Attorney at Law.

The first speaker of the evening was Mitra Malek, Staff Writer for the Palm Beach Post.  She discussed the specifics of how her newspaper and other papers in general operate.  To help bridge the gap between small businesses and her newspaper, she explained what makes events and happenings in the area newsworthy.  Malek also shared specific information as to when and how to write a press release plus who to send it to.

The second speaker was Kharin Gibson, Senior Audience Development Executive with the South Florida Business Journal.  Gibson provided all attendees with the latest edition of her newspaper.  She then walked everyone through the pertinent sections to point out how small businesses can utilize her paper to increase business.  She shared how her paper provides leads including contact information in order to increase their data bases.

It was an interactive session with attendees asking many questions and the speakers providing a lot of answers.   Overall, the speakers provided excellent presentations and were well received.

The next session of the Small Business RoundTable will be March 28th.  That session will be focused on understanding how to utilize social media networks to increase business.  Attendees will be required to bring their computers because this will be a hands-on session.  People will be grouped with one instructor to learn either LinkedIn, Facebook or Pinterest.  Space is limited for this session.
