Miami Time: A Short Play Festival at the WRM/PAX Theatre Series
Feb. 15 & 16
White Rose Miami returns to PAX with ‘Miami Time’, a short play festival that celebrates the city we call home. After receiving dozens of submissions, a panel of local artists chose 13 short plays by 11 local playwrights.“Our goal when creating this event was to find diverse voices that together could capture the essence of what makes Miami such a unique city,” explains Co-CreativeDirector Ivan Lopez.“We were very pleased with the quality of the plays and are extremely excited about the lineup we put together. There really is something for everyone,” he said. “Playwrights were asked to submit 2-10 minute scripts that captured the themes of “Miami” and “time” – from there, their imaginations went wild. The result is a group of plays that cross culture, generation, and time.” Co-Creative Director Melissa Almaguer adds, “This is our second event working with a large group of artists and it’s exciting to be able to trust in everyone’s creativity. Ultimately the evening for me is about highlighting that part of Miami that isn’t so commonly depicted, and that’s that feeling of community and togetherness. Regardless of what points of views are seen on stage, off stage we want the audience to feel connected. That’s my Miami experience and that’s what I love about our city.”
Don Grimme’s “The Gateway” takes us on a lightning quick tour of 500 years of Miami history. In Don Sheer’s “Saving the Brisket” an elderly Jewish woman tries desperately to save her brisket after her power gets knocked out during a hurricane. In “Dominoes” Paul Poppe imagines a future Miami where cultural diversity has been eliminated. In “PAX, 1961” WRM’s Lopez tells the true story of his father’s first day in Miami and the strange coincidence that surfaced over 50 years later.Marj O’Neill Butler tackles the foreclosure crisis that crippled the city in “Leaving Home” as a young married couple spends their last few moments together in the home they just lost.Renier Murrillo’s “MIA Westchester” pokes friendly fun at the infamous ‘Miami girls’. Marla E. Schwartz’s play “Brunch Soon” is a comedy about a couple fighting over where to have brunch at one of the myriad of awesome restaurants in Miami. Other playwrights include Kaley Rose, Izzy Garcia, Gian S., and Barbara Levis.
WHEN: Fri. Feb 15 and Sat. 16 at 7:00pm, Doors open at 6:30pm
WHERE:PAX Performing Arts Venue; 337 SW 8th Street (directly under the 95 overpass on your left) (305) 640-5847

Dr. Miguel Grillo and his staff. Photo: Robyn Barkley.
Although Dr. Miguel Grillo provides his patients with state-of-the-art dental care, offering the most innovative services to the community, that isn’t the main reason his patients remain loyal. The level of care Dr. Grillo gives is what sets him apart from the rest; personalized visits and genuine concern for each person that enters his office.
“The main thing we focus on is the care we give to the patients,” Grillo said. “It’s very personalized. We know our patients by their first names.”
In 2006, Dr. Grillo opened his practice, Healthy Smiles Dental Group. His office, located in the Kobosko’s Crossing plaza in Wellington, offers general preventative and diagnostic care, along with specialty services such as implant, cosmetic and restorative dentistry.
Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Dr. Grillo came from a family of medical and dental professionals.
“I always wanted to be a dentist. I liked dentistry because I was involved with it since I was very young,” he said.
Dr. Grillo started his career in odontology, the study of teeth, their structure and health, in his native land of the Dominican Republic. He studied at the Universidad Odontologica Dominicana and received his degree of Dental Surgery in 1986. After graduating, he returned to the United States where he continued his dental training at New York University. He completed his residency and fellowship at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., working in an integrated physician-dentist program.
In 1994, Dr. Grillo moved back to the Dominican Republic. There he opened his first practice in Santo Domingo, Grupo Odontologico Dr. Grillo. He also did some philanthropic work, starting up a non-profit organization that provided medical and dental care to families who could not afford it.

Dr. Grillo returned to the United States in 1998 and worked for King’s Dental Group, a private practice, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Upon retuning to New York, he received his Mastership from the American Dental Implant Association and a fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Currently, Dr. Grillo serves the dental needs of the Wellington area at his own practice, Healthy Smiles Dental Group. Here his services range from general dentistry to teeth whitening, veneers and implants, dental restoration and treating the overall facial form, offering Botox treatment.
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Grillo is keeping current in the dental community. He prides himself on keeping up with the latest innovations in dental technology; belonging to dental societies, attending study clubs and seminars, and doing continuing education.
He also gives back to the community, doing philanthropic work at the Caridad Center in Boynton Beach. Every month he provides his time and dental services to those without insurance. Dr. Grillo is also the co-founder of the Dominican Healthcare Association of South Florida. The organization, made up of healthcare professionals of Dominican descent, focuses on providing one-of-a-kind care to South Florida.
Dr. Grillo strives to be a mentor to his colleagues and future healthcare professionals. He is always willing to help students interested in the dental and medical field, whether it’s allowing them to shadow him in the office or just giving them advice on how to get into the field.
Along with a thriving career in dentistry, Dr. Grillo has been happily married to his wife, Wendy, for 28 years and is the proud father of four sons. In his spare time, he focuses on his other passion, aviation. He is a licensed pilot and has been an avid flier for 4 years.

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce Holds a
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for
Three J’s C Cigars

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce and its Ambassadors recently welcomed Three J’s C Cigars as new members. The store is located at 4115 S. State Road 7, Suite 4-2 in Wellington, Florida. If you are looking for hard to find, premium cigars and a place to comfortably “hang out” and enjoy your smoke, Three J’s C Cigars may be the place you ought to visit.
Three J’s C Cigars is owned and operated by Jeremy Fedoruk.Fedoruk was born in Hollywood, Florida and grew up with a mother who was a Nutritionist and a father who worked in the tobacco industry. His father John worked for a large company that had exclusive licenses with popular cigar brands such as Montecristo, Romeo Y Julieta, and Trinidad.Through the years his father became friendly with key cigar distributors.Fedoruk said, “We saw there was a niche for people trying to find rare, hard to get items and we had the upper hand because my dad already knew everyone.”
So father and son started to fill that niche. They sold La Gloria Cubana cigars which was a difficult brand to get at the time.In order to store these cigars, Fedoruk’s father converted half of a bedroom walk-in closet into a humidor.“Then all the clothes came out and it became a larger humidor. Then from there, the business kept growing.”Fedoruk added.
As the cigar business was establishing itself and growing, Fedoruk graduated from high school in Boca Raton and then attended Florida Atlantic University to study Biomechanics and Physiology and earned a degree in Physiology.Fedoruk said that today, “By trade I’m a strength and conditioning specialist so I work with athletes, professional boxers, football players, polo players, jumpers, you name it.”This business includes three other strength coaches who work under him taking care of clients.“So by trade I’m a physiologist.”His company is Athletic Enhancement Group and you can visit their website at www.aegpower.com.
In early 1996, Fedoruk was working with the Miami Dolphins. He told his father about a retail space in Davie that was close to where the Dolphins trained and would be a good location to open a cigar store. He added that he would invite the Dolphins players he worked with to visit the store, hang out, and draw new customers. So Fedoruk senior opened his first store and named it Three J’s Cigar Emporium.
For the record, the three “J”s represent 3 generations in the Fedoruk family; John, Jeremy, and Jeremy’ son Joseph. “C” was later added to the business name to represent Jeremy’s sister Christen who also worked for the family business. The name became Three J’s C Cigars which is on the Wellington location’s door which opened in 2006.Another location recently opened in Boca Raton.
Three J’s C Cigar’s is active in the community doing charitable work. They have had two annual golf events. The first was to raise proceeds for Joe Dimaggio’s Children’s Hospital in memory and honor of Fedoruk’sniece Mia. NFL players and cigar manufacturers attended the event and donated money and prizes.
The past year’s golf event took place at Binks Forest Golf Club. Money was raised anddonated to a charitable organization named the Brigance Brigade Foundation. This foundation was created by O.J. Brigance who is a personal friend of Fedoruk’s. Brigance is the Director of Player Development for the Baltimore Ravens.Fedoruk saidBrigance was an exceptional athlete who was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2007.The Brigance Brigade Foundation helps people in all stages of ALS with needed equipment, resource guidance, support services, and funding to various research initiatives.
When asked why customers should visit Three J’s C Cigars, Fedoruk said that they pride themselves on good service, exceptional cigars and a friendly atmosphere. He said they have a highly educated and experienced staff. In addition, they carry the rarest, premium cigars which are priced extremely well.
Regarding the atmosphere he said, “You get greeted by a hug.We treat you like you walked into our living room. We don’t see you as a customer; we see you as a friend.”He added that his store is not just for cigar smokers.Wives, friends and family are encouraged to come and relax, watch the wide screen tv’s, and socialize.
Fedoruk also noted that there are groups who visit his store.Three J’s C Cigars offers discounts to law enforcement officers and firefighters. A Ladies Club will be starting up shortly as well.He said his customer base is diverse and includes doctors, lawyers, professional athletes, business owners and movie stars just to name a few.
“We may not be the biggest but I feel like we’re the best. We care about everybody that comes in.We want you to have fun; not to just come in for a cigar, but to come in to relax and talk. From store owners to movie stars, you never know who you are going to run into here.”
