Wellington Ready to Break Ground on the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club Facility

Join Wellington’s Village Council at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 22nd for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club. The ceremony will take place at the site at 1080 Wellington Trace at the northwest corner of the water treatment plant. Construction of the 22,570 square foot facility is anticipated to be completed in 2013 and will include a computer room, dance and music studios and a science lab.

“We are so happy to be breaking ground for this new clubhouse. Over the years, the small size of our current facility forced us to turn hundreds of children away. The new Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club will enable us to serve hundreds of children who might otherwise go home to an empty house each day after school or spend school breaks alone. It’s going to be an amazing place for kids to come, learn and make lifelong friends,” said Mary O’Connor, president and chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County (www.bgcpbc.org) is the county’s largest facility-based youth development organization, offering a broad range of programs and activities in six core areas: education and career development; character and leadership development; sports, fitness and recreation; health and life skills; technology; and the arts. The clubs serve more than 7,500 youth each year, ranging in age from 6 to 18.

Lake Worth, FL – Spotlight of Wellington Performing Arts Studio and Lake Worth High School brought the timeless magic of the The Jungle spotlight1Book to Lake Worth in a new original family-friendly production on Saturday, May 12th, 2012 and Sunday, May 13th.  The production was performed by Spotlight of Wellington’s theatre troupe and theatre classes, along with dances from all of Spotlight’s dance classes.  The participation of these local performers was made possible under the direction of Niki Ann Giliberti and Brittany Kiser.  Original costumes were designed by Stacey Stein.

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s famous novel by the same name, Spotlight’s full-length lavish production was choreographed by Ivy Canapa, Lacey Canapa, Alexandra Dow, Niki Ann Giliberti, and Kenneth Fowler.  Ryan Lee created the set design, and the students of the Lake Worth High School theatre department assisted in the production of the show.

“Our audience loved how this story was brought to life, incorporating incredible dance, costumes, theatre and music,” says Giliberti.

spotlight2The show followed the jubilant and sometimes treacherous adventures of Mowgli, played by Anthony Mennella.

Spotlight of Wellington offers classes, camps, and workshops for all ages in dance and drama.  For more information on classes and programs offered by Spotlight of Wellington, please visit www.spotlightofwellington.com

May, 2012 – Lake Worth’s Evening on the Avenue Phantom Piano

0

Lake Worth Downtown Cultural Alliance says “June is Bustin’ Our All Over Lake Worth” The Phantom Piano Appears – Evening on the Avenue: Friday, June 1, 6-10PM

Lake Worth’s Evening on the Avenue will finally receive the long promised Phantom Piano, a gift of the Chafin Music Center at 608 North Dixie Highway.  The piano, a metallic-paint explosion, was created by local artist Craig Fielding.  It is Chafin Music’s gift to the city of Lake Worth. The wonderful cacophony of sound and entertainment greeting visitors on the streets of Lake Worth welcomes this new addition.

For over six months the promise of this piano has tantalized merchants and visitors alike.  The twice a week Lake Worth radio show touted its appearance, promising melodic airs and a chance for musicians everywhere to come to Lake Worth to make music on it.   No piano appeared.  The rumor of this phantom grew and grew.

On Friday, June 1, the Chafin Piano Project finally comes to the streets of Lake Worth.  On this evening Chafin’s very own Bill “12 fingers” Wallin will be the first to tickle its keys.  Ever after, the piano will appear throughout the town, waiting for musicians to find it and crank out their own tunes.  The Chafin Piano Project promises enduring impromptu concerts.

Lake Worth has music pouring out from venues all over town.  From Blues and Jazz to Rock and Roll and Folk, there is not a dull moment all evening.  Dancing on sidewalks and streets is the norm on Fridays.   The Downtown Cultural Alliance (DCA) provides bands in the Cultural Plaza for all Evenings on the Avenue. The Plaza is filled with vendors, food and arts.  Shops stay open with one of kind unusual wares never found in strip malls or shopping centers.

Lake Worth, the little village by the sea, has the only bridge to the beach for miles around.  Stop in on your way to the ocean and visit galleries, restaurants and shops.  Look for the phantom piano and try your hand at a tune or two.

The DCA (Downtown Cultural Alliance) has planned an exciting summer of celebrations and activities designed to welcome the public.  Look for schedules of upcoming events for the entire season.  The Fourth of July promises to the most exciting celebration in the entire region.

The Downtown Cultural Alliance (DCA) is a non-profit association of Downtown merchants and residents working together to keep Downtown Lake Worth vibrant and welcoming.
