ARMORY ART CENTER TO CELEBRATE TWO EMERGING ARTISTS AT UPCOMING ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE EXHIBITION

0

March 4, 2024 (WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) â€“ This spring, the Armory Art Center will celebrate artworks by its two 2023-2024 artists in residence, John Lark and Ali Saunders. The exhibition will run from March 11 through April 30, 2024 at the Armory Art Center’s historic West Palm Beach campus.

The Armory Art Center’s highly competitive Artists-in-Residence program attracts a diverse group of emerging artists in varied disciplines who have at least a bachelor’s in fine arts degree. The Armory provides the artists with studio space and the freedom to develop their work, and all artists teach at least one class at the center during their residency.

“We can’t wait to celebrate these exceptionally talented working artists at the Armory Art Center this spring,” said Lianna Slater, exhibition and events coordinator. “Not only do they exemplify excellence, but they also have the ability and passion it takes to share their knowledge with our students—making them true master artists.”

The Armory will celebrate the exhibition’s opening with a free reception on Thursday, March 14 from 5-7 p.m. The public is invited to join the celebration and meet John Lark and Ali Saunders during the reception.

About the Artists

John Lark

Show Title: Measurements and Attachments

John Lark is an Artist-in-Residence in Painting, Drawing and 2D Media. He is a representational painter who creates oil paintings that depict interactions between figures and environments. In 2012 Lark received an MFA from the New York Academy of Art. His interest in art dates back to his childhood years in Michigan, where he frequently visited the Detroit Institute of Art and the Cranbrook Art Museum. There, he developed a connection with, and enthusiasm for, abstract expressionism, minimalism and pop art.

Lark graduated with a BFA, cum laude, in 2005 from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, where his concentration was in figure painting and printmaking. He later studied abroad in Florence, Italy where his appreciation for Renaissance and Baroque periods blossomed. After graduation, Lark moved to New York City and took a post-baccalaureate semester at Columbia University. He realized his primary interests lay in representational painting and began graduate studies at the New York Academy of Art. There, he developed the style for which he is known today. Lark has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in New York, including the Ethan Cohen Gallery, Untitled Space Gallery and Van Der Plas Gallery.

Ali Saunders

Show Title: Space Dots

Ali Saunders is an Artist-in-Residence in Ceramics. She is from Boerne, Texas, and makes functional pottery using repeated patterns and color. She received her BA from the University of St. Thomas (UST) and her MFA from Louisiana State University. After graduating from UST, she was a resident at Flower City Arts Center in Rochester, New York. Most recently, she has been the Salad Days Resident at Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, where she made 450 plates to be a part of the Salad Days event in July 2023.

Saunders is inspired by the growth and abundance in nature and makes work that connects to the legacy of female makers in her family, as well as the handmade, floral-decorated objects she made as a young girl. Lately, she has sought to locate and define her position on the spectrum of utility. She approaches the creation of ceramic vessels with a duality—making them functional and visually appealing in a way that celebrates connectivity with others, the dynamic simplicity of life, and embracing moments in the present.

Courses bring expert education supported by the social media giant

Wellington, Fl.- Khanna House Studios announces a collaboration with certified TikTok Learning Partners, we.live.LIVE to bring South Florida cutting-edge content and training experiences approved by TikTok. Khanna House Studios- a podcast, YouTube, content creation studio, and event space, will be South Florida’s first and only hub to offer this exclusive bi-weekly 6-week learning curriculum led by certified TikTok learning partners beginning March 7, 2024.

TikTok boasts over 100 million users and has notably impacted the digital culture since it began in 2016. According to CNN, TikTok is the first non-gaming mobile app to generate $10 billion in global consumer spending. It is positioned to be the highest-earning mobile app in history, with consumers spending $11 million daily tipping their favorite creators.

“The earning capacity on social media is limitless,” said Studio Manager Lillian Khanna. “Khanna House Studio’s collaboration with an official TikTok partner is especially exciting because it solidifies us as a hub for entrepreneurs, influencers, and creators to learn leveled-up content creation tactics and potentially supplement income or create a primary income stream.”

This partnership leverages the expertise and insights of TikTok’s educational ecosystem to enhance training and content offerings.

“This is not superficial learning,” said Lillian. “Creators will be learning on an advanced level – trendjacking, cheat codes for live streams, monetization, and how to signal TikTok’s algorithm to show you are an active and committed creator. Khanna House Studios is a place of learning, and we want to offer everyone the opportunity to be successful on social media.”

Khanna House Studios x we.live.LIVE inaugural learning series starts with a live event at the studio on March 7, 2024, and is open to anyone considering using TikTok as a form of income.

“Your return on content creation investment works when it’s not taking up 70% of your work week,” Lillian said. “The kickoff event will be an introductory Q&A with we.live.LIVE as part of a greater series teaching creators how to effectively produce quality content in a way that doesn’t take up all of your time until it becomes a sustainable revenue source.”

We.live.LIVE Account Director Allie Nazario is excited to work with Khanna House Studios to share insights and guidance and bring South Florida an unparalleled opportunity to skyrocket local creators’ TikTok LIVE presence.

“We chose Khanna House Studios for this opportunity, praising its reputable team and palpable passion, which aligns with our vision as a company,” Allie said. “We’ve seen creators leap from no earnings to over $10,000 a month on LIVE, showcasing the platform’s potential for substantial creator income. During the course, attendees will learn how to master the art of engagement and monetization on one of the world’s leading entertainment platforms.”

The interactive course allows participants to test skills, interact with viewers, and apply real-time strategies to captivate online audiences.

“True to our original vision, we always wanted the studio to be a place where people could learn and create. Everyone wants a piece of the social media pie, and this program leverages expertise to impact social media quickly. I am looking forward to seeing what thrives as a result of this,” said studio owner Julie Khanna.

Khanna House Studios and we.live.LIVE event series kicks off on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. and is open to the general public. Individual classes are $25 or $125 for the 6-course series. Spaces are limited, and interested parties can register at www.welivelive.com/live-engagement-series or contact Lillian Khanna at lillian@khannahousestudios.com for more information.

Hawks Cay Resort Celebrates 40 Years

There’s no place quite like the Florida Keys. In this laid-back slice of tropical paradise, each of the Keys serves up good times and sunshine. If Duck Key is your island of choice, Hawks Cay Resort is the place to go. This year marks the resort’s 40th anniversary. This significant milestone is being celebrated all year with special deals and promotions. Each quarter brings unique opportunities for guests to experience the outstanding hospitality of the Hawks Cay Resort while making memories to last a lifetime.

The History of Hawks Cay Resort

The island of Duck Key has been intertwined in the fabric of the Florida Keys since the 1800s. From the island’s whimsical naming by British General George Gauld in 1775 to hosting presidents, weathering hurricanes, and the 1951 introduction of the Indies Inn, the resort’s journey has been characterized by joy, resilience, and family bonds.

In 1984, Duck Key underwent significant changes, leading to the renovation of the existing Indies Inn and the subsequent reopening of the property as Hawks Cay Resort. Renovations continued through the years. In 1999, villa renovations refreshed the property. The year 2003 brought an introduction of world-class amenities. Then in 2009, Hawks Cay introduced the Heroes Salute Program embodying the spirit of gratitude and family values.

Hurricane Irma tested the resort’s resilience in 2017, leading to a year-long closure. However, Hawks Cay Resort emerged stronger in 2018 after a $50 million renovation and redevelopment. The resort unveiled a new coastal casual design, two new restaurants, an expanded adults-only area, and upgraded programming and amenities.

“As Hawks Cay Resort commemorates 40 years in the heart of the Florida Keys, we embrace our rich history and look forward to an exciting future,” said Tiffiany Holmes, Hawks Cay’s resort director. “From humble beginnings to becoming the largest resort in the Keys, we’re not just reflecting on the past; we’re casting our gaze forward. Our legacy is the foundation, and the promise of a vibrant future is integral to our story.”

Join the Hawks Cay Celebration

To kick off the anniversary festivities, Hawks Cay Resort invites guests to enjoy the “40th Anniversary – Now and Then” offer, providing a complimentary fourth night plus a $40 daily dining credit when booking stays now through March 31, 2024. In February, the resort launched its “40 Summers and Counting – Endless Savings” offer. This initiative provides 20% off stays and 50% off per person on Sunset Cruises with SolĂ© Watersports when booking a minimum of two nights in April through June.

The resort recently introduced the “Vacay Pup” program, welcoming dogs. Next up, a marina renovation promises to deliver an enhanced guest experience. The project includes enhanced facilities and a new retail outlet for water enthusiasts. A cherished element of the resort’s legacy, fishing remains a focal point. Guests can expect unparalleled opportunities to engage in fishing adventures. From paddleboarding to snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, the resort ensures a dynamic range of activities for all ages.

Hawks Cay promises more exciting promotions and deals throughout the year along with an array of new programming and events to elevate the anniversary celebration experience. Stay tuned for updates on the resort’s website and social media channels including Facebook, X and Instagram.
