Lake Worth Downtown Cultural Alliance presents

Non Stop Holiday Celebrations

All of December in Lake Worth

Small towns often suffer during the holiday season, deserted by the masses for the large malls; lured by glossy ads and non-stop commercials.  Downtown Lake Worth is fighting back with extraordinary wares, great pricing, quality merchandise, exceptional food and entertainment.

Starting on December 3 and continuing until January 6, Lake Worth turns into a Holiday Wonderland of fun events and cultural offerings.  Partnering in bringing holiday joy to friends and neighbors are the DCA (Downtown Cultural Alliance), the CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency), LULA (Lake Worth Art.com), the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Lake Worth.

1.      December 2:  Evening on the Avenue features band concerts in the Cultural Plaza, vendors and street performers up and down the avenues. A fantasy glass spinning demonstration will take place outside of the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery.  Holiday foods will be found at many of the local food and specialty shops.

2.     December 3: The DCA sponsored first Holiday Stroll will take place from 5-9PM.  Merchants vie for best decorated holiday windows. Stroll the streets visiting shops and taking in the holiday lights.  From 6-10PM the CRA presents Holly-Days, Lake Worth, a FREE family event. This includes a petting zoo, letters to Santa, pictures with Santa and a tree lighting ceremony with “I Love Lucy”  theme.

3.     December 10: 10AM-4PM the DCA presents the Second Saturday Sidewalk Sale. Vendors and Street Performers line the avenues with unique wares, tasty foods and wonderful music.  All shops and restaurants will present their best foods and wares.  The theme this Saturday will be  Mug-a-Thon. Artists will create mugs of every size, shape and color for easy gift giving.  Merchants will stuff mugs with soaps, candies and other unique gift ideas.  From 12-6PM the Kiwanis Club presents Santa’s Wonderland Workshop, a fun filled family event.  6-8PM the City of Lake Worth will hold its annual Light Up the Night Parade. Be sure to bring your own lawn chairs so that you can relax as you watch the local high school bands and floats come down the street.  Look for Mr. and Mrs. Claus, lots of side entertainment and the Home Depot craft center.

4.     December 16: Evening on the Avenue comes at the heart of the festive season celebration.  Visitors to town are invited to drop off art supplies for children that will be donated to the local public elementary schools, at the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery in downtown Lake Worth.  This is a stocking stuffer evening on the Avenues with shops and vendors catering to all of your last minute needs at affordable prices.

5.     December 17: The last DCA Holiday Stroll takes place as windows come alive with decorations and activities. Look for Hot Cider and Cookies in many of the shops throughout town. 5-9PM features the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce and Sounds of the Season. Local high school and community bands, carolers and choirs will be performing throughout the town and in the Cultural Plaza.

6.     December 23 & 24: Last minute holiday shopping.  The downtown merchants and restaurants of Lake Worth will be going all out to make sure your final hours of holiday preparation will be both fun and affordable. Music will ring out from every corner as the town works together to make this your favorite place for fun and shopping.

7.     Happy Holiday to Everyone from your friends in Downtown Lake Worth: Return to the real world on January 6th with The Nightmare AFTER Christmas. From 6-10PM the Lake Worth Playhouse, Compass and the CRA unite to blend Halloween and Christmas into a night that will showcase the best of what Lake Worth has to offer.  Flock to the Cultural Plaza for a night (mare) you will never forget.

The Downtown Cultural Alliance (DCA) is a non-profit association of Downtown merchants and residents working together to keep Downtown Lake Worth vibrant and welcoming.  The DCA is working with the Lake Worth CRA and LULA, the City of Lake Worth and the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce to coordinate Evenings on the Avenue, the Second Saturday Sidewalk Sales, all Holiday Events and special events.

The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach Continues Fall Cabaret Season with Sophisticated Showman STEVE ROSS

November 30 – December 3

The Colony Hotel – which The Palm Beach Post has hailed as “probably the best place for cabaret on the planet” – continues its Fall Cabaret Season with one of the Royal Room’s returning favorites:

STEVE ROSS

November 30 – December 3

Returning to the Royal Room for the fourth time since 2005, Manhattan’s most sophisticated cabaret singer Steve Ross has been lavishly praised by audiences and reviewers alike for his singing style and personal élan. He rose to fame as a cabaret entertainer during his lengthy sojourns at New York’s fabled Algonquin Hotel and Ted Hook’s Backstage in the late 1970’s, and spent the ensuing decades singing and playing in smart clubs and swank parties all over the world. The Ritz in London, the Crillon in Paris and the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, in addition to festivals in Hong Kong, Perth and Spoleto – these are but highlights of Steve’s appearances on six continents. On the airwaves Steve has been the performer/host for radio series for both the BBC and National Public Radio. In 1992 he was voted outstanding singer-instrumentalist by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. Also in that year Steve made his Off-Broadway debut in his own tribute to Fred Astaire, and he continues to tour the world for solo concerts, master classes, theatrical engagements and symphonic Pops appearances.

Reviews of Steve Ross:

Stephen Holden, The New York Times: “The persona of Steve Ross is “that of a sophisticated party entertainer who holds off the blues with a froth of wit. But there is an introspective side to Mr. Ross that has increasingly peeked out in his recent cabaret performances.”

The Village Voice: “When Steve sings, New York is New York again.”

Cabaret Scenes: “An Astaire-way to paradise. Your cabaret season is incomplete without this visit with Steve Ross.”

Cost to Attend Steve Ross:

Music Charge is $50.

For all cabaret performances in The Colony’s plush Royal Room, doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktails with dinner seating from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A memorable three-course prix fixe dinner is offered at $55, as well as an a la carte menu of small plates and delicious entrees and specialty desserts from Polo Steaks and Seafood. There is no service during the cabaret performance that starts at 8:30 p.m.

speciesstampjpg-70b3cfce8deb00721Semi-postal stamps are sold at 55 cents each — 11 cents above the regular  First-Class Mail rate.  Sales from the Vanishing Species stamps are equally divided among five Multinational Species Conservation Funds administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service:  African Elephant Conservation Fund, Asian Elephant Conservation Fund, Great Ape Conservation Fund, Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Fund, and Marine Turtle Conservation Fund.

The zoo sponsors conservation projects all over the world — with the majority of its work with species, including tiger cubs that are part of its collection.  The Palm Beach Zoo is a  non-profit zoological organization at Dreher Park and is home to more than 1,400 animals living within 23 acres of lush tropical habitat.
