Acoustic guitars were prevalent throughout the show, as were excellent songs, and superb singing.  Performers arrived from all over South Florida and included: Andrew Bayuk and the Undeniables – Andrew is a performer, songwriter, and recording artist who has also performed on TV and radio; Ellen Bukstel who was a Grammy Nominee; Joe Virga who is a long time professional singer and songwriter from Ft. “Laugh Out Loud” Comedy Series Had Wellington Residents Bundled Up and Laughing

WEI Network and “Peter’s Livingroom” in conjunction with the Village of Wellington presented a comedy show Friday night, February 11th, 2011.  This is an ongoing series of monthly comedy shows at the new Wellington Amphitheatre which is located west of S.R. 7 or south of Southern Boulevard along W. Forest Hill Boulevard.  All shows in the series are FREE which is a nice break for families dealing with the recession.

This was a night of comedy and laughter with comedians coming in directly from performances at the Improv, Bonkers, NY Comedy Club, National Lampoon, and other clubs across the country.  Performers included the following: Neil Berliner (Emcee), Alan Shuman, Michele Mink, Brian Kirk, Frannie Sheridan, Evan Jacobs, and Anthony Monte (Headliner).

There was audience participation, especially with the children who attended the show.  Although the comedians involved in this ongoing series are used to performing to adult crowds in clubs, they still delivered much laughter for everyone. As advertised, it was a “G” rated show that adults enjoyed as much as the kids.  The audience brought blankets and seating, plus coolers with drinks and munchies.  There was ample free parking and restrooms on the grounds.

The “Laugh Out Loud” shows are always the 2nd Friday of each month.  The next show will be Friday, March 11th, 2011 from 7:30 – 9:30 P.M.  Go to Peterslivingroom.com for more information or call Peter at 561.827.4223.  Dates are also listed on The Village of Wellington’s website.

March, 2011 – World Dressage Masters Palm Beach

0

World Dressage Masters Palm Beach presented by International Polo Club Palm Beach

Wellington, FL – February 7, 2011 – Dressage is the oldest of equestrian disciplines and the basis for true harmony between rider and horse. The Greek philosopher Xenophon wrote the first recorded book on horsemanship in 350 BC. At that time and long after, horses were trained for warfare. During the Renaissance the riding schools of Vienna and Saumur contributed a lot in sophisticating dressage.

However only in the 20th century the public discovered the beauty of the ‘dancing horses’. The 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm were the first to stage dressage on an Olympic level. Dressage has never left the Olympic podium since and with the introduction of the Grand Prix Freestyle to Music in 1996 in Atlanta, dressage quickly gained popularity all over the world. Grand Prix Dressage, the highest expression of horse training, is considered to be the art of equestrian sport.

To compliment this fantastic sport and to contribute to it’s further internationalization and growth, sports marketing agency SportBizz, equestrian innovator Exquis have launched the World Dressage Masters (WDM) initiative in 2008. In 2011 the World Dressage Masters will feature four top class CDI5* shows:

9-11 March, Palm Beach, Florida USA

2-5 June, Munich, GER (final Nürnberger WDM Rider Ranking)

7-9 July, Flasterbo, SWE

29-31 July, Hickstead, GBR

The World Dressage Masters is the world’s premier dressage circuit, offering unprecedented prize money of 425.000 Euro ($ 585.000) and the globe’s top dressage riders.

All World Dressage Masters shows will be broadcasted on sports channel Eurosport connecting WDM to 150 million households in Europe.

Partners of the World Dressage Masters are: Exquis, Moorland investments and Moorland stables, Nürnberger Versicherungen, Jerich International and Axel Johnson Group.

February, 2011 – Whole Foods Supports Agriculture Programs

WHOLE FOODS MARKET ANNOUNCES All FLORIDA STORES TO SERVE AS CSA DROP POINTS

New Initiative Supports Local Farmers through Community Supported Agriculture Programs

FORT LAUDERDALE,  FL (February 2011)—Furthering  their dedication to community service and the support of local agriculture, Whole Foods Market’s Florida Regional Office is proud to announce that it is rolling out a new, state-wide initiative to support local farmers. Effective immediately, all Florida stores will now be serving as drop points for local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs

A win-win opportunity for consumers to buy fresh, local food directly from a farm, and for farmers to sell more produce, earlier in the season, a CSA program connects its paid members with participating farmers who provide them a weekly stock of seasonal produce.  The looming problem for farmers is how that produce gets to consumers (where it is dropped off and/or picked up) in a manner that is convenient for all involved.   An understanding of these challenges, coupled with Whole Foods Market’s mission to support local farmers, prompted Florida team members to create a solution – offering their stores as complimentary drop spots.

“At Whole Foods Market, we go out of our way to seek out and promote the best that our local growers and producers have to offer,” explains Russ Benblatt, executive marketing coordinator for Whole Foods Market’s Florida Region.  “But it’s just not possible for every farm to be represented on our shelves.  We couldn’t think of a better way of living up to this goal than by providing an outlet for farmers to bring the best that Florida agriculture has to offer, straight to the consumer.”

Having tested the system with two supplying local farms in a few stores over the past several months, the Whole Foods Market Florida team is certain this will be a success:  Teena’s Pride, a CSA farm in Homestead, Florida, has been using the Coral Gables and South Beach stores as drop-off points, while Swank Farms in Loxahatchee has been dropping products at the Wellington, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale locales.  Tested farmers and CSA members seem to be thrilled with the program, as are store Team Members.

“We’re so grateful to Whole Foods Market for offering their stores as CSA drop points for us and other local growers,” proclaims Teena Borek of Teena’s Pride.  “It really shows their commitment to both their own customers and the local family farms.  And our CSA members are thrilled with the one-stop system!”

“It’s all about supporting the local farms in a way we never have before,” says Matt Lamoreaux, Produce Coordinator for the Florida Region.  “We want people to discover the heritage and variety of farming here in Florida and we couldn’t think of a more exciting way to do it!”

Through this program, Whole Foods Market hopes to help educate people in Florida about CSAs, as well as raise the awareness and support for local family farms.  Local farmers who wish to participate are encouraged to contact the marketing team leader at their nearest store.  The number of farms supported in each store will be limited by available storage space for each pick-up day, and is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Interested farms can find their closest store by using the “store finder” at wholefoodsmarket.com/stores.

2011 24-Hour Theatre Project

It’s that time of year when drama teachers Adam Simpson and Carrie Simpson of Lynn University present to the community their 24 Hour Theatre Project’ Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 7:30 PM.

Back for the 4th time the Lynn University Drama Program is hosting it’s 24 Hour Theatre Project which means that in 24 Hours more than half a dozen plays will be written, rehearsed, memorized, staged, and performed in front of a live audience. This year along with professional playwrights from the community, along with a Lynn faculty member and two students eight new ten-minute plays will be written. Over 30 student actors, 8 directors and multiple stage hands will come together to make this show a comic success! Come on out for an evening of laughs! Basically, this is how it works: exactly 24 hours before curtain, writers are given a cast of actors; a director and a list of play titles. None of the participants have ever seen these titles before. The writers choose a title and over the next 12 hours write a play using that title as the only inspiration. The following morning, the actors and directors receive their scripts and begin rehearsal.

This year, the playwrights include:

Jeff Morgan (a Professor at Lynn University’s College of Liberal Education)
Will Garcia (a Senior English major at Lynn University)

Stephanie Williams (a film major at Lynn University who also takes classes in the conservatory for trumpet)
Todd Caster (a well-known playwright)
Wendy White (
Artist/Playwright/Producer/Director/Curator, her website is: http://www.newlightgallery.org/ .)
Marla Schwartz (you may recognize her name as an AroundWellington.com cultural arts writer)
Allan Provost (a well-known playwright who lives in Miami)

Barbara Fox (a well-known playwright from Miami who organizes playwriting events at the Arts at St. Johns in South Beach)

The show will be performed in the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall at the de Hoernle International Center on the campus of Lynn University, 3601 North Military Trail, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Tickets are free for students, faculty, staff (and playwrights- of course). Free tickets with Lynn ID can only be reserved in person at the Box Office. One ticket per ID. No online or phone reservations for free tickets. Tickets for guests are $10 a ticket. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and on weekends for 2 hours prior to scheduled performances. Phone: (561) 237-9000; Website: www.lynn.edu/tickets, E-Mail: tickets@lynn.edu.
