On September 21st, 2010, the Village of Wellington and the Wellington Rotary Club presented a Peace Ceremony. Amen! The Jewish Shiksa Returns

 Frannie Sheridan

Boca Raton, FL- The reviews are in…Confessions of a Jewish Shiksa…Dancing on Hitler’s Grave! is an international buzz-worthy hit!

The play, starring Frannie Sheridan and directed by Shari Upbin, inspired audiences in Montreal, Canada in September. Now Sheridan brings her funny, dark, multi-character one-woman show to South Florida for a command performance at Zinman Hall in Boca Raton. Co-produced by The West Boca Theater Company, Sheridan will stage six unforgettable performances on Sunday October 17th, 24th, and 31st. There will be two shows a day at 2PM and 5PM.

In Confessions of a Jewish Shiksa, Frannie shares the true and humorous story of being raised to hide her Orthodox Jewish identity behind a cloak of Catholicism.

The story is told from the perspective of young Frannie, a nice Catholic girl who grew up with dumpling soup and candlesticks on Fridays, Manischevitz-spiked eggnog at Christmas, and a score of other traditions unfamiliar to her Catholic friends. Frannie’s questioning leads her to discover her family’s truth: her parents barely escaped the Holocaust and once in North America, were brutally attacked and left for dead by antisemites. These incidents caused them to shroud their history in secrecy, hiding their Jewish heritage even from their children. Confessions reveals the performer’s family history through top-notch storytelling sprinkled with clever satire.

Nosy neighbors and eccentric relatives round out the cast of characters of this one-woman show which will hit home with anyone who has struggled with questions of identity, family, and truth vs. appearances.

Sheridan is encouraging people from all walks of life to see the play because she believes Confessions appeals to all faiths, cultures and sexual orientations. “It’s a story that resonates with so many people on so many different levels. In the end we all just want to be accepted for who we really are,” said Sheridan.  An audience conversation with Frannie will follow each show.

The reviews are in!

“A gripping, powerful, story. From stand-up comedy to stand-out performing,” said Mario Betto of the Fort Lauderdale Theater Examiner.

“I wasn’t expecting anything so personal and compelling, the performance was amazing,” raved attendee Regina Ross, who brought six family members.

“A Dramatic Gem,” said Marla Schwartz of Around Wellington Magazine.

Sheridan has won numerous writing honors, including the prestigious Gabriel Award for a CBC documentary based on her story and mayoral proclamations from West Palm Beach and the city of Miami Beach. Recently she was interviewed on Jewish Life Television(JLTV).

Greenacres Business Council Meeting on Sept. 30th

Good Day All:

Though it has been a while since our last Greenacres Business Council meeting, I am delighted to send this Meeting Notice. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday Morning, September 30th, beginning at 8:30 A.M.  Thanks to our gracious host, Tom Lanahan, Director of Planning and Engineering with The City of Greenacres, we shall be convening at the Greenacres City Hall, 5800 Melaleuca Lane (between Military Trail and Jog Road).  As always, respecting your busy schedules, the session will end no later than 10:00 A.M.

In addition to catching up on what has been happening–as area leaders, you will learn about the exciting regional economic development that has been launched with Greenacres as an integral component.  The effort is a strong private/public sector partnership addressing economic development in the central western communities of Palm Beach County.

A forum targeting Greenacres businesses will be held, again at City Hall, on Wednesday Evening, October 27th, and the Greenacres Business Council, along with its parent organization, the Palms West Chamber of Commerce, will be participating actively as business interests will be attending and urged to express talking  their views of the city as a place to do business.

I do not want to go on and on in this e-note; you will learn much more at the meeting on September 30th.  Please RSVP at your earliest opportunity by responding to my electronic address, NShpritz@mail.com or by phone at (561) 274-4564.

Thanks again for your active participation.  I look forward to being with you at this upcoming Greenacres Business Council meeting. And, finally, as always, light refreshments will be served!

Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run/Walk 2010

The Palms West Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2010 Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run & Walk will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010.  Joanna Boynton and Terri Priore will both return this year, to chair the event.  The Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run/Walk has been an annual event since 1997 focused on bringing residents together to promote health and fitness, while supporting a charitable organization.  The net proceeds from the 2010 event will benefit Scott’s Place—A Playground For All Abilities.

Scott’s Place is a barrier-free playground being built as part of the new Wellington Town Center.  A cornerstone donation of $250,000 was made by the Williamson family, whose son dealt with his disabilities his whole life.  Their donation enabled the construction to begin, and now there is a need for community support to finish the project.  Scott’s Place is the first barrier-free playground in Palm Beach County, and will ultimately incorporate a full acre of accessible playground equipment including slides, sensory items, shade, swings and many other attractions.  Boynton explained, “The Run/Walk steering committee felt that donating to Scott’s Place enabled us to provide a place for our community’s children to enjoy fitness on an everyday basis.  The 2010 Wellington Community Fitness 5K Run/Walk is proud to donate to this project, where children of varying abilities can come together to play in  a safe  and enriching environment.”

This year’s event will feature a USATF Certified 5K Run and non-competitive walk—something the entire family can enjoy and race enthusiast of all ages and ability levels can participate in.  The course this year will be based at the new Wellington Town Center, where the Amphitheatre and Scott’s Place are located.  As in past years, it will be an out-and-back route.  But, this year the race will begin on Chancellor Drive, (located just behind the Village’s pool diving boards), and will turn right onto South Shore Blvd.  Participants will head up South Shore and turn right (North) onto Big Blue Trace until they reach the half-way point and then they will loop back and return to the start/finish line on Chancellor Drive.  “Basing the walk at the Town Center gives a “center” to our community event,” Priore states, “and it encompasses our affiliation with Scott’s Place this year.  This new location offers us the opportunity to grow the Community Fitness 5K Run/Walk into an even larger, community event in the years to come.”

To register for the Run/Walk or for sponsorship information, please visit www.communityfitnessrun.com, or contact Maureen Gross at (561)790-6200 or maureen@palmswest.com.
